The TV series, based on the novels written by acclaimed mystery writer Agatha Christie, starred David Suchet as the titular character and ran for over 20 years – a testament to its popularity – from 1989 until 2013, and even sparked spin-off and films.

In its 13 series and 70 episodes, many stars popped up for cameo appearances including Downton Abbey star Elizabeth McGovernBelgravia‘s Alice Eve and even American actress Jessica Chastain. But viewers may have forgotten that a certain BAFTA-nominated actress appeared in the show – Emily Blunt!

Emily Blunt in Death on the Nile

Back in 2004, before Emily’s career had reached international acclaim, the actress appeared in an adaptation of one of Agatha Christie’s best-known novels, Death on the Nile. In the episode, which aired in 2003, Emily played Linnet Ridgeway, a wealthy America heiress on her honeymoon with husband Simon Doyle (JJ Field). Linnet and her husband start getting continuously harassed by her former friend, Jacqueline (Emma Malin), who claims Linnet stole the love of her life. Linnet eventually seeks the help of Poirot. Suddenly, one of the passengers dies on the Nile cruise – leaving Poirot to do what he does best.

Emily played Linnet Ridgeway in the drama

Three years after her stint in the drama, Emily went on to gain success and critical acclaim after appearing in much-loved comedy-drama film The Devil Wears Prada alongside Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep. For her role in the film, Emily was nominated for a BAFTA in the Best Actress in a Supporting Role category and for a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress. The 37-year-old also went on to find fame in films such as The Girl on the Train, A Quiet Place, which was created by husband and fellow actor John Krasinksi, and as Mary Poppins in the 2019 remake of the film.
