She woke up beside a dead body — but the murder may be the least disturbing part of this story. Netflix has quietly dropped a haunting BBC psychological crime drama that viewers are already comparing to Happy Valley, and the deeper you go, the darker it gets.

Netflix has quietly added the “best series in years” and it’s “captivating from the very beginning”.

A “heartbreaking” BBC crime drama is ready to binge-watch as fans hail it as “addictive viewing”. Award-winning Happy Valley is one of BBC’s most iconic shows for a reason and now another gritty, female-led drama has caught fans’ attention.

Originally released on BBC One in 2023, Irish crime drama The Woman in the Wall has made its way to Netflix and it’s been described as a “deeply moving masterpiece”. The six-part series follows sleepwalker sufferer Lorna Brady (played by Ruth Wilson) who wakes up to find a dead woman in her home.

While Detective Colman Akande (Daryl McCormack) arrives from Dublin to investigate an unrelated murder of a priest, their paths soon cross.

On top of the mystery surrounding the dead woman, Lorna’s past as a survivor of a Magdalene Laundry is discovered, delving into how her baby was cruelly taken from her.

The Woman in the Wall may have originally come out in 2023, but it’s just been added to Netflix and has already soared into the most-watched charts.

Bringing Lorna to life is none other than The Affair star Ruth Wilson, who is also famed for His Dark Materials, Luther, Mrs Wilson and Down Cemetery Road.

She is joined by actor Daryl McCormack as Detective Akande, who is remembered for Bad Sisters, The Lesson, Twisters and Peaky Blinders as Isaiah Jesus.

“For acting skill and chemistry, this is the best series since Happy Valley”, a fan praised on IMDb. “Ruth Wilson and Daryl McCormack are absolutely top.”

Someone else echoed that it was “exceptional”, before adding: “The acting, the music, the overall feel, it’s absolutely gripping.

“The performances from the lead actress and actor are two of the best I’ve ever seen.”

A fellow viewer described it as “haunting, moving and outstanding drama”, as a third said it was “one of the best things I have seen on TV in a long time.”

Another added: “It is gripping and heartbreaking in turns. Quite simply, British drama at its best. A must watch.”

The Woman in the Wall is available to watch on Netflix.
