At 62, Craig Morgan is proving that age has done little to slow him down.
The “Almost Home” singer, decorated military veteran, and current Army Reserve member brought plenty of energy to the Neon Nights Country Music Festival at Clay’s Resort in North Lawrence, Ohio, over the weekend. During a performance of one of his biggest hits, “International Harvester,” Morgan took things to another level by climbing the stage scaffolding without a harness while continuing to perform for the crowd.
At one point, he was hanging high above the audience, supporting himself with one hand and one foot.
That’s an impressive feat at any age, let alone more than 20 years after the release of his debut album.
A second angle of the moment offered an even better sense of just how high Morgan had climbed.

Morgan’s Military Career Continues
Morgan, whose full name is Craig Morgan Greer, has plenty of experience pushing himself beyond his comfort zone.
He originally served for 17 years as a staff sergeant and fire support specialist in the Army and Army Reserve, including with the 101st and 82nd Airborne Divisions. In 2023, he re-enlisted in the Army during a ceremony held on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee.
During an appearance on Fox & Friends, Morgan explained that two factors played a major role in his decision to return to military service.
“Recruiting was worse than it had ever been in the history of our nation. It was terrible, and I felt like I could bring something to the table to help with that. Secondly, I served 17 years and I never got a letter that said, ‘Thank you for your service.’ I wanted that retirement letter so bad. So this was an opportunity for me to do that.”
Army recruiting has since improved. Last summer, the Army announced that it had reached its annual recruiting goal four months ahead of schedule, following a surge of men and women choosing to serve.
Morgan, however, may have to wait a little longer for that retirement letter. He recently received a promotion instead.

Promoted to Chief Warrant Officer 2
In January, Morgan appeared at the Pentagon with his wife, Karen Greer, for a ceremony where he was promoted to Chief Warrant Officer 2. The ceremony was officiated by Department of War Secretary Pete Hegseth.
During the event, Hegseth praised Morgan for continuing to serve despite achieving significant success in his music career.
“I think you have been one of the incredible highlights of our generation. Of someone who showed the rest of the world that you can be at the highest of heights in your professional career, doing really cool things, where everybody knows your name and sings your songs, and yet you want to serve the country.”
Morgan returned the praise, expressing his respect for Hegseth and his approach to military leadership.
“As a soldier we don’t get to select our leaders. We select our job, and sometimes they select that for us as well. But if I had the opportunity to select a leader that I would serve under, it’s you, sir.”
Considering Morgan’s military background, perhaps climbing stage scaffolding in front of a country music crowd shouldn’t come as much of a surprise.

At 62, he clearly still has plenty of energy left.
