No one expected Prince William to do this when he approached Princess Ingrid Alexandra… At King Harald V’s funeral, cameras captured the Prince of Wales leaning in to give the visibly heartbroken future queen a tender kiss on the cheek — a brief gesture that instantly stood out amid the solemn ceremony. But there was something especially meaningful about this quiet exchange between two royals who both know what it means to grow up under the weight of a future crown.

Prince William offered a touching moment of comfort to Princess Ingrid Alexandra during the funeral of King Harald V in Oslo on Wednesday, with the brief exchange between the two future monarchs captured on camera.

The Prince of Wales attended the solemn ceremony alongside his aunt, Princess Anne, representing the British royal family at a significant moment for Norway’s monarchy. But amid the formal proceedings, it was William’s warm greeting for Ingrid Alexandra that stood out.

William gave Ingrid a sweet kiss on the cheek

Following the funeral procession and a balcony appearance in Oslo, William and Anne joined other royals and state officials in offering their condolences to the Norwegian royal family.

When William approached Princess Ingrid Alexandra, he greeted her with a kiss on the cheek.

The gesture was particularly poignant given the circumstances. Ingrid Alexandra is the heir to Norway’s throne, while William is first in line to the British throne. Both have grown up under the expectations and responsibilities that come with preparing to one day become monarch.

The brief interaction offered a rare glimpse of warmth amid an otherwise deeply solemn day.

Princess Anne was also seen offering comfort to King Haakon, her godson, during the funeral proceedings.

It was confirmed on Saturday that Prince William and Princess Anne would attend King Harald’s state funeral as representatives of Britain.

HELLO! reported that William was representing his father, King Charles, at the ceremony. The sovereign would not typically attend the funeral of another head of state.

Anne, meanwhile, attended in a personal capacity as King Haakon’s godmother.

The pair joined the procession behind King Harald’s coffin as it made its way to Oslo Cathedral.

They were among a large gathering of members of European and international royal families. Princess Charlene represented Monaco, while the Dutch royal family was led by King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima, alongside their daughter Princess Amalia.

Sweden was represented by King Carl XVI Gustaf, Crown Princess Victoria, Crown Prince Daniel, Prince Carl Philip, Princess Sofia and Princess Madeleine.

Other members of the procession included Christopher O’Neill, King Abdullah and Queen Rania of Jordan, Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene of Monaco, as well as representatives from Belgium, Spain, Denmark, Luxembourg, Liechtenstein and Japan.

Among those present were King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium, King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain, King Frederik and Queen Mary of Denmark, Crown Prince Christian, Grand Duke Guillaume and Grand Duchess Stéphanie of Luxembourg, Grand Duke Henri, Prince Alois and Princess Sophie of Liechtenstein, and Crown Prince Fumihito Akishino and Crown Princess Kiko of Japan.

Against the backdrop of such a formal and emotional occasion, William’s simple gesture toward Ingrid Alexandra provided one of the day’s most personal moments.
