Six Years Later, Harlan Coben Fans Are Still Sleeping On One Of His Best Netflix Binges… This Overlooked Mystery Thriller Is Short Enough To Finish In A Single Night — And Twisty Enough To Keep You There Until The End

Netflix’s Forgotten 89%-Rated Harlan Coben Thriller Is Only Six Episodes — and You Can Easily Binge the Entire Mystery in One Sitting

Netflix has become packed with Harlan Coben thrillers, but one of his most atmospheric mysteries arrived years before the recent wave of global hits — and somehow remains overlooked. With just six episodes, an 89% Rotten Tomatoes score and a decades-old disappearance at its center, it may be one of the easiest Coben shows to binge in a single sitting.

The Woods arrived on Netflix in 2020, long before adaptations such as Fool Me Once and I Will Find You helped turn Coben’s mysteries into some of the streamer’s most recognizable binge-watch material.

The Polish thriller never achieved quite the same level of mainstream attention.

Yet six years later, it stands out in an increasingly crowded collection for one important reason: it knows exactly how much story it needs.

There are only six episodes, and almost every one pushes its central mystery forward.

A Body Reopens a Mystery Buried for Decades

The Woods (2020)

The story centers on Paweł Kopiński, a Warsaw prosecutor whose life is suddenly pulled back toward a painful chapter from his youth.

Paweł is asked to identify a body.

That discovery creates a possible connection to something he has never truly escaped: the disappearance of his sister Kamila from a summer camp decades earlier.

From there, the series moves between 1994 and 2019, slowly revealing how the events of one summer continue to haunt the people who survived them.

Rather than treating its missing-person case purely as a puzzle waiting to be solved, the drama focuses heavily on what an unresolved disappearance does to those left behind.

Old relationships resurface.

Memories become increasingly important.

And questions Paweł has carried for years suddenly appear capable of being answered.

Six Episodes Make It an Ideal Weekend Binge

Coben’s stories are famous for twists.

One revelation frequently leads directly into another, and adapting those densely plotted novels for television can sometimes leave a series struggling to contain everything.

The Woods benefits enormously from its restraint.

Its six-episode structure gives the mystery room to develop without allowing the story to become unnecessarily stretched.

Even with two timelines in play, the series remains focused on Paweł and the unresolved events surrounding his sister’s disappearance.

That makes it particularly attractive for viewers who want a complete mystery without committing to multiple seasons or dozens of episodes.

Start it in the evening and there is a very real danger of watching the entire story before going to bed.

The Polish Setting Gives the Thriller Its Own Identity

Another reason The Woods feels different from many of Netflix’s newer Coben adaptations is its setting.

Rather than simply reproducing the atmosphere of an English-language crime drama, the Polish production establishes its own mood.

Grzegorz Damięcki portrays the older Paweł, while Hubert Miłkowski plays his younger counterpart.

Together, the two performances provide an emotional bridge between the timelines.

The mystery isn’t merely about discovering what happened years ago.

It’s about understanding how those events shaped the man Paweł eventually became.

That emotional element helps prevent the constant revelations from becoming nothing more than plot mechanics.

The series has also received strong critical recognition, holding an 89% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Netflix Is Giving the Story Another Chance

Interestingly, viewers who discover the Polish version now are doing so just as Netflix prepares to return to the same Coben story.

An English-language adaptation of The Woods was announced in April 2026.

This time, the story is being relocated to England.

Tom Bateman is set to play Paul “Cope” Copeland, while Michelle Keegan will portray his first love, Lucy Silverfield.

The adaptation is being written by Danny Brocklehurst, whose previous Coben work includes Fool Me Once, Stay Close and Run Away.

Coben is involved as creator and executive producer.

No official release date had been announced in the supplied report, although 2027 was suggested as a possible window.

The Original Has Set a High Bar

An English-language remake doesn’t automatically mean the original needs replacing.

Some of Coben’s international Netflix adaptations have been among his strongest-reviewed projects.

The Spanish-language The Innocent, for example, achieved a 100% Rotten Tomatoes score, demonstrating that the international settings can be part of what makes these adaptations distinctive.

That puts additional pressure on the new version of The Woods.

Brocklehurst’s involvement offers reason for optimism, but the original already has several advantages: a compact running time, a distinctive atmosphere and an emotionally grounded central mystery.

Most importantly, it’s available as a complete story.

For viewers who raced through Netflix’s newer Harlan Coben hits and are searching for the next mystery, there’s no need to wait for another adaptation. Six episodes, two timelines and one disappearance that refuses to stay buried make The Woods one of the streamer’s most overlooked Coben binges — and its 89% rating suggests it deserved far more attention the first time around.
