Josh Hartnett has nicked the top spot on Netflix US this week with Below, and his big comeback has apparently come with one condition: the man must never be allowed a quiet life. The six-part limited series drops him into a Newfoundland fishing town with something dangerous lurking beneath the water.
It’s a great jump for Harnet after Oppenheimer because now we get to see him dealing with nuclear anxiety or whatever the hell is swimming offshore. The series was supposed to keep us on our toes, and so far, it looks to be doing a great job.
Jesse McKeown, who worked on The Umbrella Academy, created the series, with Mackenzie Davis and Stranger Things alumnus Charlie Heaton joining Hartnett, and if you have been enjoying this second wind of his career, Below is another sign that it is not running out of puff yet.
Florence Pugh is right behind with East of Eden, where Cathy Ames has American viewers hanging on, while Zoe Kazan’s seven-part Steinbeck adaptation. For the book lovers, this is a nice change of pace to watch things from Cathy’s perspective, as the Netflix series intended to.
It’s not comedy’s turn with Mojo Brookzz: I Know You Lying, Dyon Brooks’ first Netflix stand-up special after 12 years on the circuit, while the October 5th edition of Raw follows behind because, come on, wrestling fans never need much persuading to watch somebody throw down a billion punches.
The Great British Baking Show calms things down a touch, with Collection 14 bringing Nigella Lawson alongside Paul Hollywood after Prue Leith’s departure.
A Different World is in there too, while Jeremy Renner’s Mayor of Kingstown brings prison-town trouble to the chart, and with the former getting another season, Hillman College fans can finally cheer up.
Wonka’s The Golden Ticket then turns the chocolate factory into a reality competition with $3 million on the line, and Ms Rachel and Danny Go! round things out, which leaves Hartnett wearing the crown.
