Riley Green Stunned by 16-Year-Old Mia Knight’s “Shocking” Performance on The Voice as Queen Latifah Makes Her Battle Round Decision
A performance of “Never Enough” from The Greatest Showman left The Voice coaches struggling to find the words, with country star Riley Green admitting he had never heard anyone sing like that in real life.
The standout moment came during the Battle Round on October 26, when Team Queen Latifah’s Sophia Liano and Mia Knight went head-to-head in a performance that impressed all four coaches. While both singers demonstrated impressive vocal abilities, it was 16-year-old Knight who ultimately emerged as the winner.
Even before the pair took the stage, their performance had generated excitement. During rehearsals, Queen Latifah admitted that their rendition of the song gave her chills. Team advisor Patti LaBelle was particularly taken with Knight’s voice, comparing the teenager’s talent to that of Barbra Streisand and Celine Dion.
But the real test came when Liano and Knight performed in front of the coaches. Their powerful rendition quickly turned into one of the night’s most memorable moments.
Riley Green and Kelly Clarkson React to the Stunning Duet
Green was visibly impressed by what he had just witnessed, describing the performance as almost unbelievable.
“That was shocking. I didn’t know people sang like that in real life,” he said with a laugh.
The country singer went on to praise Liano’s vocal tone and Knight’s impressive range, making it clear that both contestants had delivered something special.
Kelly Clarkson was equally enthusiastic. The singer had jumped out of her chair during the performance, and she was eager to explain what had caught her attention.
“It was neck and neck for me until the lord came down. I don’t know what you did, Mia, but that little jab you got in with that little run,” Clarkson said, shaking her head in amazement.
Her reaction suggested that, although the two singers had been evenly matched for much of the song, Knight’s brief vocal flourish ultimately tipped the scales in her favor.
Adam Levine also echoed Green’s description of the performance as “shocking.” The Maroon 5 frontman praised Liano’s natural ability and striking tone, but Knight’s vocal control and maturity stood out most to him.
“Especially to be 16, it’s incredible,” Levine said. “To be able to do it with the maturity that you have and the way you attack a vocal is strangely adept for someone your age.”
For a singer still in her teens, the praise was particularly significant. Knight had not only kept pace with a strong competitor but had also impressed coaches with the confidence and technique she brought to the stage.
Queen Latifah Picks Mia Knight as the Battle Round Winner
Queen Latifah had plenty of reasons to be proud of both contestants. Their performance had captivated the coaches, and she made sure they understood just how much their efforts had meant.
“What you just did out there, we are all better for it,” she told them.
She also singled out Clarkson’s reaction, joking about the physical toll the performance had taken on her.
“You got Kelly out that chair,” Queen Latifah said. “I literally had to take my ring off because I cracked the stone on here with one of those notes. So you owe me a ring, but I think you can run me that by winning this show.”
The playful remark underscored just how impressed she had been with the singers. However, choosing a winner was a different matter.
Queen Latifah praised Liano for the way she showcased her talent, but she felt Knight had continued to improve throughout the process.
“She leveled up and leveled up,” the coach said of the teenager.
That growth ultimately proved decisive. Queen Latifah chose Knight as the winner, sending the 16-year-old forward in the competition.
Reflecting on the difficult decision afterward, she explained what had separated Knight from her opponent.
“They went at it. It was just wow,” Queen Latifah told the cameras. “I had to pick Mia because she controlled that microphone like this is my mic, this is my stage, this is my song, this is my voice, and this is what I do.”
Her decision came down to more than vocal ability alone. Knight had demonstrated a commanding presence, performing with the confidence of someone who knew exactly how to make the most of the moment.
Queen Latifah also drew a personal connection between Knight’s age and her own early career. The coach recalled that her first record was released when she was just 17, making the teenager’s readiness to take the next step especially meaningful to her.
“Mia is only 16, but my first record came out when I was only 17,” she said. “Some people are ready, and she is ready to move forward in this competition.”
With the Battle Round victory secured, Knight earned Queen Latifah’s vote of confidence and a place in the next stage of the competition.
The Voice airs Mondays on NBC.
