Reba McEntire’s Emotional Tribute To Dolly Parton Leaves Country Music Fans In Tears
Reba McEntire delivered a deeply moving performance at the CMA’s I Will Always Love You: A Celebration of Dolly Parton, joining fellow artists in honoring the late country music icon.
Rather than choosing one of Dolly’s biggest hits, Reba performed “He’s Alive,” a gospel song Dolly recorded in 1989. The choice reflected their decades-long friendship and shared faith, making the moment especially meaningful.
The two first met at the Grand Ole Opry in 1977. Reba was scheduled to sing two songs, but when Dolly unexpectedly arrived, one of her slots was given to the superstar. Reba didn’t mind losing a song — she simply wanted the chance to meet Dolly. She later recalled being captivated by Dolly’s beautiful outfit and iconic hair, saying she thought Dolly looked like an angel.
That first encounter grew into a friendship that lasted nearly 40 years.

Written by Don Francisco, “He’s Alive” tells the story of Jesus Christ’s resurrection through the eyes of Peter, who struggles with guilt after denying Jesus three times. Its final verses turn toward forgiveness, love, and the hope of redemption.
Dolly recorded the song for White Limozeen and later performed it at the 1990 GMA Dove Awards, backed by a gospel choir.
As Reba brought the song to the CMA tribute stage, its message carried a powerful emotional resonance. The performance honored not only Dolly’s extraordinary musical legacy but also the faith and friendship that connected the two women for so many years.

For fans, it was a poignant reminder that behind the legendary voice and larger-than-life personality was a woman whose influence reached far beyond the stage.
