Nana, formerly of After School, has spoken out against people who call themselves her fans while leaving malicious comments about her relationship with Big Bang alum T.O.P.

On November 5, Nana uploaded a long message on her personal social media account, looking back on her 17 years in the entertainment industry. “For 17 years, I have done my work sincerely and given my best at every moment,” she wrote. “I am human too, so there were times when I was emotionally shaken and unstable. But even then, I never took the work given to me lightly or failed to fulfill my responsibilities.”

She then explained why she decided to speak up. “I am writing this to reach the people who call themselves fans while intentionally writing malicious posts, ignoring my choices and my freedom after I acknowledged my relationship,” Nana wrote. “I hope you take a cold look at what you want and expect from a celebrity, and from the person named Nana.”

“I tried to understand everything you have said and done, but I cannot,” she continued. “Did I do something terribly wrong? Did you suffer any harm because of me? Did I cause a moral controversy?”

Nana then drew a firm line. “To be clear, the relationship, up to the point of acknowledging it, is my personal private life and my life. I don’t think it is something I need to be sorry for,” she wrote.

Instead, she said what she regrets is that people she considers her true fans have had to see and hear harsh words because of her. “Please do not hurt the fans who love and respect Nana as a human being, beyond the frame of a celebrity. Please stop causing harm,” she added. She also apologized to the fans who have been quietly enduring the situation, promising to remember every word of support and to repay them with a good image.

Nana publicly confirmed her relationship with T.O.P in early October. The two first met while filming T.O.P’s music video and became a couple in June.

However, the backlash surrounding T.O.P, including his past suspended sentence for marijuana use, his reversal after mentioning retirement, the closure of his longtime fan site, and the controversy over his attendance at a birthday party, has since spilled over onto Nana as well.
