Prince Harry Set To Return To The US Just Weeks After UK Move — And His New York Trip Comes Amid Fresh Royal Drama

Prince Harry is set to cross the Atlantic again just weeks after moving back to Britain with Meghan Markle and their two children, with the Duke of Sussex heading to New York for a major event hosted by Bill and Hillary Clinton.

Harry is expected to attend the Clinton Global Initiative’s annual meeting in New York City on September 22 and 23, marking his return to the United States less than a month after relocating to the UK.

Meghan is not expected to accompany him, nor are Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, meaning Harry could be making the trip alone.

Harry’s US Return Comes Quickly After Family Move

Prince Harry Already Heads Back to the US After UK Move

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex previously lived in Montecito, California, after stepping back from royal duties and relocating to the US in 2020.

Their recent decision to move back to Britain with their children has therefore represented a major change for the family.

But Harry’s upcoming New York appearance means his transatlantic ties are clearly continuing.

He is expected to join a high-profile gathering featuring figures including Chrissy Teigen, Bill Nye and LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman.

Harry has attended the Clinton Global Initiative before. In 2024, he spoke at the event about the potentially harmful effects social media can have on young people.

It has not yet been confirmed whether he will deliver a speech or take part in a formal discussion this year.

What Will Harry Discuss?

This year’s Clinton Global Initiative is expected to focus on a wide range of international issues, including artificial intelligence, climate and energy resilience, democracy, humanitarian response, economic opportunity and health.

Founded by former US President Bill Clinton in 2005, the initiative aims to bring attention to major global problems and encourage action around them.

Harry’s involvement therefore fits with his continuing work on issues he has championed since leaving frontline royal duties.

His trip also provides a striking contrast with the picture of a Sussex family now settling into life back in Britain.

The Timing Comes Amid Fresh Royal Tension

Harry’s return to New York comes at a particularly complicated moment for the Duke.

His move back to Britain has been followed by renewed attention on his relationship with the Royal Family, particularly after a Palace letter reiterated that Harry and Meghan are private citizens rather than working royals.

The letter also confirmed that their HRH styles remain in abeyance and that their charitable activities are undertaken in a private capacity.

Harry’s team reportedly said they were surprised by the announcement and by the limited notice they received.

Reports have also suggested that the Sussexes would prefer to be described as “public figures” rather than “private citizens”, although their exact position has been the subject of conflicting reports.

The Palace, meanwhile, has maintained that the letter simply restated the existing arrangements surrounding the couple’s status.

Another Setback For Harry

The dispute has also been followed by an unexpected development involving the Invictus Games.

Uganda withdrew from the 2027 Games after previously announcing its participation, with Harry’s camp linking the decision to confusion surrounding the Palace letter.

The circumstances surrounding Uganda’s withdrawal have been disputed, however, and there has been no suggestion that King Charles opposes the Invictus Games or Harry’s work supporting wounded service personnel.

Against that backdrop, Harry’s upcoming American visit adds another intriguing chapter to a period in which his life appears to be split between two countries.

Harry’s Next UK Appearance

Before boarding a plane for New York, Harry is expected to attend the 2026 WellChild Awards in London.

The event is likely to take place only a day or two before his US engagement, giving the Duke a particularly busy stretch of public appearances after his family’s return to Britain.

Harry may now be rebuilding his life around the UK, but his latest itinerary shows that America remains firmly woven into it.

Just weeks after leaving Montecito behind, the Duke of Sussex will soon be back in New York — a reminder that his return to Britain has not meant cutting his ties with the country where he and Meghan built their life for the past six years.
