Strictly Come Dancing’s first dance-off of the series has ended in heartbreak, with fans left stunned as Chris Appleton became the first celebrity to leave the BBC competition after just two weeks.
The 43-year-old celebrity hairstylist and his professional partner Amy Dowden were visibly emotional after losing their place in the competition to Jaime Winstone and Carlos Gu.
Chris and Amy performed a Cha Cha to I’ll Be Ready from Baywatch, while Jaime and Carlos took on their own Cha Cha to Oh, Pretty Woman from Pretty Woman.
The judges unanimously chose to save Jaime and Carlos, bringing Chris and Amy’s Strictly journey to an unexpectedly early end.
‘SO SAD TO SEE CHRIS AND AMY GO’

Chris, who has worked with stars including Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Lopez, had found himself near the bottom of the leaderboard after two weeks, finishing with a score of 33.
But the result still came as a major shock to viewers, particularly those who had quickly grown attached to his partnership with Amy.
Fans flooded X with emotional reactions after the dance-off.
One viewer wrote: “i so wish amy and chris’ partnership could’ve lasted longer 🙁 , a partnership i wanted from the very beginning.”
Another said Chris and Amy “didn’t deserve to” leave that week, adding that they believed Melanie and Aljaz should have faced the dance-off instead.
A third viewer summed up the mood bluntly: “God I can feel myself crying for Chris and Amy. It’s so unfair.”

AMY FACES ANOTHER EARLY EXIT
The elimination was particularly painful for Amy, who has now been knocked out at the first hurdle in two successive series.
In 2025, the professional dancer also left the competition in the first elimination alongside The Apprentice star Thomas Skinner.
This time, Amy was visibly heartbroken as she said goodbye to Chris — although she made clear that her sadness came from losing the chance to continue dancing with her new friend.
Chris, meanwhile, described the experience as a “whirlwind of emotion” and admitted that taking part had pushed him far beyond his comfort zone.

“I’m 43 and got good at doing what I did which is hair. So to come into something like this, I felt so out my comfort zone,” he said.
“I saw myself in a way I’d never seen myself and challenged myself in ways I never knew I’d be challenged. But I’m very grateful for everyone who’s been involved.”
He also said he was thrilled to have gained a friend in Amy, while admitting he wished he could have helped her progress further in the competition.
FANS QUESTION THE RESULT
The shock did not end with Chris and Amy’s elimination.
Viewers were also left baffled that Melanie and Aljaz avoided the dance-off despite sitting at the bottom of the judges’ leaderboard.
One viewer questioned how Melanie had managed to survive over Jaime, who had been ranked considerably higher by the judges.
The reaction highlighted the unpredictable nature of the public vote, which can dramatically alter the results suggested by the judges’ scores.
While Jaime and Carlos now live to dance another week, Chris and Amy’s Strictly story has already come to an end.

STRICTLY’S MOVIE WEEK DRAWS BIG AUDIENCE
Despite the controversy surrounding the first elimination, Movie Week itself proved a major success for the BBC.
A Strictly spokesperson said the episode was the most-watched programme of the night, with a peak audience of 5.6 million viewers.
The broadcaster added that overnight ratings only provide part of the picture in an increasingly on-demand viewing landscape.
For Chris and Amy, however, the numbers mattered far less than the emotional goodbye — and fans were left wondering how different their Strictly journey might have looked if they had been given more time together.
