THEY WERE ONE ANSWER AWAY FROM £97,000 — THEN EVERYTHING COLLAPSED. The final stage of The 1% Club became a nerve-shredding showdown as five players made it to the dreaded 1% question, all with a shot at a life-changing £97,000 prize pot. The challenge didn’t look dangerous at first — just a balloon puzzle, a few letters, a bit of logic. But that’s what made it deadly. As the countdown burned away, you could see the panic set in. Finalists scrambled through the letters, chasing patterns, second-guessing themselves, trying to find the missing piece before time ran out. Five answers. Five different instincts. Not one of them saw the hidden trick. And when Lee Mack revealed what they had missed, the room went dead silent — because the answer had been there the whole time, hiding in plain sight

Host Lee Mack revealed that none of the contestants had got the answer correct

On tonight’s episode, Lee Mack was back with more quiz questions aimed to stump the 100 players in the game.

By the final question, only five remained and they had to face a question only a reported 1% of the UK would be able to answer.

Host Lee asked: “When Vince announced his engagement, his friends decided to buy him some celebratory balloons.

“His Best man only bought the balloons to spell Stag Location but Vince’s other friends insisted he go out and buy the additional balloons to spell Congratualtions.

“What were the other three balloon letters he needed to buy for them to be able to display the word Congratulations?”

With time running against them, the five remaining players had to tell Lee out loud what their answer was.

Simon replied, U, R and L but explained he had been rushing and might have got it wrong.

Nicholas replied U, R and O but said he could then see the answer and knew he was wrong.

Sam then replied U, N and C while Jenna said T, R and U.

Finally, Kit revealed he had put R, U and T.

Unfortunately neither of the players got the correct answer and Lee bid them all goodbye after revealing the answer was R, U, N.

Viewers took to social media and one wrote: “Gutted that all 5 failed to get it. Hate that. #The1PercentClub.”

Another said: “As with many of these, it wasn’t hard while sat on me sofa, but I suspect my brain would scramble in the studio.”

While a third wrote: “A bit gutting no one got the 1% question right but at least Kit has his £1,000 everyone played really well again and it was another great show tonight see you again next Saturday.”

Meanwhile, last week a contestant made history on the show as the first contestant ever to walk away with the full £100,000 prize pot.

As Lee revealed she had taken home the win, Maccisha clapped her hand over her mouth in shock as the studio turned gold in celebration.

The question was: “What is the lowest number that replaces the question mark in this sequence?”

The three contestants then were shown:

  • 1+2 = one
  • 2+2 = four
  • 3+2 = three
  • 3+3 = eleven
  • 4+3 = ??
