Steven Spielberg is often hailed as the greatest living film director, but Sir Christopher Nolan could give him a run for his money. Of his 13 films to date, multiple movies feature in lists of the greatest movies of all time. The British-American filmmaker has established himself as an arthouse blockbuster filmmaker who can write and direct a story from scratch and rake in $1 billion by his name alone, regardless of the acting star power. As The Odyssey releases as yet another critically acclaimed hit for Nolan, here is our Top 10 ranking of his films with Following, Insomnia and Tenet failing to make the list.
10. The Dark Knight Rises (2012)

Nolan’s conclusion to his Batman trilogy is a decent effort, with Tom Hardy’s Bane stealing the show. But at 165 minutes in length, it’s a bit of a slog and not quite up to the standard of The Dark Knight, but what is?

9. The Odyssey (2026)

Visually stunning with some superb acting and action sequences. Still somewhat dense with some clunky editing choices. Probably will warm to it on repeat viewings.

8. Oppenheimer (2023)

Nolan finally won his first Oscars for this bold biopic, for which Cillian Murphy took home the Best Actor Academy Award. Powerful and well-written, but a dry, overstuffed and incredibly dense three hours.

7. Batman Begins (2005)

Nolan came on board to reboot Batman with Christian Bale, reinventing the superhero genre with a darker, more complex Caped Crusader set in a realistic world. An arthouse blockbuster full of James Bond vibes, Batman Begins is now considered one of the most influential films of the 2000s.
