What To Know
- Tiffany Haddish mocked President Trump’s alleged interference in the U.S. Men’s Soccer team’s World Cup red card controversy.
- She also ridiculed Trump’s poorly attended Great American State Fair.
- Haddish is the first of several guest hosts filling in for Jimmy Kimmel Live! over the summer.
Tiffany Haddish kicked off her guest-hosting gig on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Monday night (July 6) and wasted no time in getting stuck into President Donald Trump and his World Cup meddling.
“One of our star players was supposed to be suspended from tonight’s game, but Donald Trump personally called the head of FIFA to get the player reinstated,” she said ahead of the U.S. Men’s Soccer team’s clash with Belgium in the Round of 16 knockout game. “Which is surprising, because Trump doesn’t know anything about soccer, and it’s the first time he’s ever defended a Black person!”
“He’s growing, y’all. He’s growing! He’s growing!” Haddish mocked. “I’m so proud of him.”
Haddish was referencing U.S. Men’s Soccer team star Folarin Balogun, who received a red card during the game against Bosnia-Herzegovina, making him ineligible for the Belgium match. That was until FIFA announced on Sunday (July 5) that it was suspending the red card, meaning Balogun could play in the crucial knockout game.
The decision to suspend Balogun’s red card came following reports that Trump personally called FIFA president Gianni Infantino on Balogun’s behalf. This has led critics to accuse Trump and FIFA of corruption, though FIFA stated that suspending a red card was within its rules.
Regardless, Trump’s alleged interference didn’t help, as Belgium won the game 4-1 on Monday night, knocking the U.S. out of the World Cup.
Haddish also poked fun at Trump’s Great American State Fair, which was plagued with logistical issues and small crowds. “Trump said the event was going to be, and I quote, ‘packed to the brim,’ well, let’s see how that worked out for him,” the comedian said before throwing to a montage of the near-empty National Mall.
“I’ma be honest with y’all, there was more people at my bat mitzvah,” Haddish quipped. “I’ma be real honest with you, there was more people at my DUI trial!”

Elsewhere in the monologue, Haddish touched on the Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce wedding and the star-studded guest list, which didn’t include her. “Let me ask you a question. How can someone look this good and not get invited to the Taylor Swift wedding?” Haddish said, with her Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover pictured behind her.
“They had every famous person on Earth. Brad Pitt, Selena Gomez, J.Lo, Tom Hanks, Paul McCartney, Steven Spielberg, the bass player from Fall Out Boy, George Stephanopoulos. I mean, no offense to George Stephanopoulos, but why the f** did they invite George Stephanopoulos?!” she added.
“All those sexy men in tuxedos and no Tiffany to make them feel beautiful,” Haddish stated. “That’s my job, to make men feel beautiful.”
