SIR TOM JONES’ estranged son Jonathan Berkery sleeps on a homeless hostel floor at a shelter, it has been claimed.
The 29-year-old aspiring musician, who goes by the name of Jon Jones, has never met his The Voice UK coach father Sir Tom, 77, but revealed he is desperate to meet him “before it’s too late.”
He said: “I’d like to talk to him about normal stuff, like ‘How’s your life been? This is mine.’
“I want to see him before it’s too late.”
Jon also said that now could be the right time to reunite with the global star after his father recently gave up his home which he shared with his late wife Linda, who passed away from lung cancer in 2016.
He told the Daily Mail: “I just thought, now that my father’s wife has passed, he might see me, he’s getting old and he could be ill. I want to see him before it is too late.
“For years I was angry and I didn’t want to see him. I was conflicted.
“Now I know life is too short,” he added. “I need to get to know him.
“I just hope he feels the same.”
Jon claimed that he is currently sleeping on a mat in a New Jersey homeless shelter and considers himself lucky if he can grab one of the blankets shared with multiple men who sleep beside him.
His father Sir Tom is worth a reported £177 million.
Jon previously revealed to the publication that his aspiring music career had failed to take off and has been sleeping rough on and off for several years.
The publication also states that he was arrested for possessing drugs and sent to rehab in exchange for the charges being dropped.
Four months ago, he claimed he decided to reach out to his 60-year-old half-brother, Mark, the only child of Sir Tom’s with Linda, in a bid to reunite his family.
After failed attempts to find a contact number, he said he emailed Mark’s assistant to ask for help in arranging a meeting with him and their father.
Part of the email reportedly read: “I don’t want to spend my life regretting that I never made an attempt to contact you both and I would love to hear his side of everything or just have a real conversation.”
He claimed that he has so far received no reply.
Jon was conceived after Sir Tom had a three-day fling with his mother Katherine Berkery, who was 24 at the time, after they met in a New York nightclub in October 1987.
Katherine discovered she was pregnant three months later and was reportedly snubbed by an aide when she tried to alert Sir Tom of the news.
Jon was born in 1988, but Sir Tom denied the child was his until a judge ordered him to undergo a DNA test which proved otherwise.
The publication reports that he was ordered to pay £1,700-a-month for Jon’s maintenance money for the first 18 years of his life, but still didn’t visit his son.
The chart-topper previously spoke out about his estranged son in 2008, when Jon was 20 years old.
He told Wales online: “It wasn’t something I had planned. If I had planned it, I would have done something more than just financially.
“But it wasn’t. I just fell for it. I just fell for the seduction.”
