This is it! The moment that we were all waiting for is on the horizon. It’s time for KC to bring the big guns out. A very special injured player might be returning to the field anytime soon. The loss against the Buffalo Bills was a reality check for the Kansas City Chiefs and their head coach, Andy Reid, and QB Patrick Mahomes. Enter Marquise “Hollywood” Brown!
The Chiefs WR suffered a collarbone injury during the preseason opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars and was diagnosed with a dislocated clavicle. He’s supposedly all healed up now and signaled his return in a cryptic post on X. A regressing Mahomes needs all the help he can get, and Brown is here to do just that.
Brown took to X and posted, “⏰ [clock emoji]” which may indicate that he’ll be back in action sooner than we realize. If everything goes well, he’ll be back before the playoffs start. Matt Reddick, the beat writer at Chiefs Digest, pulled up with an important update and all the arrows are pointing up for KC, at least for now.
An X account that goes by the name of Chiefs Blitz quoted Reddick saying, “All indications are: is that his recovery is going extremely well, I think we will see him sooner than later. They [Chiefs] won’t open his return window this week, possibly next week but probably the week after that.”
KC needs a receiver right now. Though DeAndre Hopkins instantly impacted the roster, it just isn’t enough. His production was down against the Bills. On top of that, Xavier Worthy has gone cold, too. For the last three weeks, Worthy hadn’t been able to connect with Mahomes over deep passes and when he did, he was out of bounds. Clearly, the back-to-back Super Bowl champs need a star to help Mahomes perform at his fullest potential.
But everything good comes with a slight twist and the twist is the Kansas City Chiefs making some crucial changes to their roster.
Time for Patrick Mahomes to say goodbye to this guy
We’re talking about Cornell Powell, who was the 181 overall pick in the 2021 draft. He’s just had a season’s worth of experience and the Chiefs signed him to their practice in 2021. He’s been there ever since and hasn’t seen much action. They gave him a $915k contract in 2024, but now he’s been released from the practice squad as they replace him with the former Patriots receiver Tyquan Thornton.
As Matt Reddick put it, “Chiefs have released WR Cornell Powell from the practice squad. That’s the corresponding move for adding WR Tyquan Thornton to the practice squad.” All this movement might cause panic in the Chiefs practice roster, but it is what it is. Thornton has more regular-season experience than Powell, but his production turned really low during his time with the Boston team.
Right now, the KC team is still missing Rashee Rice and Isaiah Pacheco, and the Chiefs Kingdom is hopeful that they will make it back before the playoffs. Per reports, Pacheco is rumored to return in week 12. But Rice and Pacheco’s return is in the hands of the doctors and the football gods. Hopefully, they are benevolent for the Chiefs’ sake.
