Netflix Drops The Gentlemen Season 2 Trailer as Hugh Bonneville and Maya Jama Join Guy Ritchie’s Crime Drama

Netflix has unveiled the official trailer for the second season of The Gentlemen, offering the first substantial look at Eddie and Susie’s increasingly dangerous criminal empire — while introducing several major new additions to the cast.

Created by Guy Ritchie as a spin-off from his 2019 film, the series stars Theo James as Edward “Eddie” Horniman, a former army captain who unexpectedly inherits his father’s estate and discovers that the property is sitting above an enormous cannabis operation.

Season 2 will premiere on Netflix on Thursday, September 3, picking up one year after the events of the first season.

Eddie and Susie take their ambitions further

Theo James returns alongside Kaya Scodelario as Susie Glass, with the new episodes following the pair as they attempt to expand their position in the criminal underworld.

Ray Winstone is also back as Bobby Glass.

The newly released trailer suggests that the scale of their operation has grown considerably, bringing new alliances, threats and complications into Eddie and Susie’s lives.

Among the biggest additions is Downton Abbey star Hugh Bonneville, who appears in the footage as Eddie approaches him with an unusual request to help “decriminalise marijuana.”

Bonneville is far from the only newcomer.

Love Island presenter Maya Jama is joining the series in an acting role, alongside Benjamin Clementine, Benedetta Porcaroli, Michele Morrone, Sergio Castellitto, Amra Mallassi, Tyler Conti and Chris Eubank Jr.

The Gentlemen has already secured Season 3

Fans will not have to wait for Season 2’s reception to discover whether the series has a future.

Netflix has already confirmed a third season of The Gentlemen, despite the second instalment not yet having premiered.

Ritchie suggested that the expanding scale of Eddie and Susie’s world made continuing the story feel natural.

“The ambition of The Gentlemen has accelerated, the world has expanded and the consequences carry weight,” he said. “A third season felt inevitable, and I’m looking forward to pushing the boundaries of it further.”

Further details about Season 3 have yet to be announced.

Meghan Markle speculation surrounds Season 3

The show’s renewal has also been accompanied by speculation over whether Meghan, Duchess of Sussex could make a return to acting through The Gentlemen.

Meghan, who starred in Suits before stepping away from acting around the time of her marriage to Prince Harry in 2018, had reportedly been discussed for a role in the third season.

Reports suggested she could potentially play a character described as a “temptress.”

However, royal author Tina Brown subsequently claimed that the proposed appearance was no longer moving forward.

Brown wrote on X that she had heard Meghan’s involvement was “OFF,” claiming that public backlash following reports of the possible casting had been too strong.

“This does not bode well for Meghan’s acting comeback in the UK,” she added.

Reports come amid Harry and Meghan’s planned UK return

The casting speculation emerged alongside reports that Meghan and Prince Harry, 41, are preparing to return to live in Britain with their children, seven-year-old Archie and five-year-old Lilibet.

According to the reports, the family has already identified a UK home and schools for the children.

Harry is also said to want his father, King Charles, to develop a closer relationship with Archie and Lilibet.

For The Gentlemen, however, the immediate focus is firmly on Eddie, Susie and the consequences of their growing ambitions as Ritchie expands his criminal world with another eight episodes.

The Gentlemen Season 2 premieres Thursday, September 3, on Netflix.
