The ‘addictive’ crime thriller comes to an end later this year.
Netflix fans have been left asking the same question as the streamer seemingly confirmed a series set to replace a ‘top-tier’ adaptation. It has already been confirmed that the upcoming season of The Lincoln Lawyer will be its last, but the universe might carry on in another form.
According to reports by Variety and Deadline, the streamer is currently developing a spin-off series. However, fans are surprised to learn that it will focus on a new character played by Cobie Smulders.
Smulders, known for previously playing Robin in How I Met Your Mother and Agent Maria Hill in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, was introduced during season 4’s finale. She is expected to play a more significant role as Mickey Haller’s half-sister, Artemisia ‘Emi’ Finch, in season 5.

The Lincoln Lawyer is based on a series of novels written by Michael Connelly. In those stories, the central character actually has a half-brother, Harry Bosch.
He is the central figure of another series of books by the same author, in turn adapted into a Prime Video series. As a result, Netflix was unable to feature the character in their own adaptation, and instead created a new one to fill the void.
Since its debut in 2022, the series has a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Fans have labelled it ‘addictive’, ‘flawless’ and ‘one of the best shows ever’.
Deadline claims that the spin-off series is being written by the same creative team behind Netflix’s The Lincoln Lawyer. The publication also suggests that the project is being fast-tracked, although it has yet to receive an official green light for a full series.
Despite there being a total of eight books in the original series of The Lincoln Lawyer, the show’s adaptation seems to skip a number of them for the TV version of the character. This includes the first, which served as the basis for the 2011 film, the final title, and the eighth book, the last in the series.
Instead, Netflix is basing the final season on the penultimate publication. Fans have been disappointed ever since discovering it was set to end, but they are not completely won over by the idea of the spin-off so far.
While many would love to see the show expanded into a franchise, several think the wrong character has been chosen. While debating the news on Reddit, several people suggested that Neve Campbell, who plays Mickey Haller’s ex-wife and is also a lawyer, should be the focus of a new show.
One posted: “If they absolutely had to have a new series with a white woman leading, the phenomenal Neve Campbell is right there.”
Another added: “I don’t know if I’m the only one, but I would have loved a Maggie spin-off.” While someone replied: “You are not the only one..I need more Maggie/Neve Campbell in my life.”
Others suggested another character as they said: I’d love a Sisco spinoff, could focus on his origin story.”
