Netflix’s New Eight-Part Mystery Thriller With Michelle Keegan and Tom Bateman Wraps Filming as Harlan Coben Breaks a Three-Year Tradition

Netflix is preparing another gripping Harlan Coben mystery, with filming officially completed on an eight-part thriller starring Michelle Keegan and Tom Bateman.
The new series, The Woods, follows a father whose life is turned upside down when he begins to suspect that his sister, who disappeared two decades earlier, may still be alive.
Production began in April and has now wrapped, bringing the highly anticipated adaptation closer to its streaming debut.
However, unlike several recent Coben hits, the upcoming drama will not arrive on Netflix’s familiar New Year’s Day release date.
Michelle Keegan Confirms Filming Has Finished
Michelle Keegan, who previously starred in Netflix’s hugely popular Coben adaptation Fool Me Once, confirmed that filming had concluded through an Instagram Story shared on October 10.
The actress revealed that it was her final day on set, following a similar update from co-star Harry Goodson-Bevan on September 30.
The announcement marks a major milestone for the production, which has been filming since April.
With all eight episodes now shot, the series moves into its next stage before Netflix announces an official premiere date.
Keegan’s return to the Coben universe is particularly notable following the success of Fool Me Once, which helped establish the actress as a familiar face in the streaming platform’s mystery dramas.
This time, she stars alongside Tom Bateman, whose credits include The Love Hypothesis.
A 20-Year-Old Disappearance Hides a Dangerous Secret

Based on Harlan Coben’s novel, The Woods centers on Paul Copeland, played by Bateman.
Twenty years earlier, Paul’s sister disappeared during a summer camp, leaving behind unanswered questions that continue to haunt him.
Now raising his 10-year-old daughter, Cami, as a single father, Paul has built a life despite the devastating loss.
But everything changes when he begins to believe his sister may have survived.
His determination to uncover the truth leads him back into a mystery involving long-buried secrets and troubling revelations about the past.
According to Netflix’s official synopsis, his investigation uncovers years of deception and cover-ups that threaten the life he has built.
Keegan plays Lucy Silverfield, a woman who shared an intense romance with Paul during their time at the summer camp.
Her connection to his past places her at the center of a mystery that reaches back two decades.
The premise promises the familiar ingredients of a Coben thriller: missing loved ones, complicated relationships, hidden identities and revelations that challenge everything the characters believe.
Netflix Breaks Its New Year’s Day Harlan Coben Tradition
One of the biggest surprises surrounding The Woods concerns its release schedule.
For three consecutive years, Netflix launched a major Coben adaptation on January 1.
Fool Me Once premiered on New Year’s Day in 2024, followed by Missing You in 2025 and Run Away in 2026.
That pattern will not continue with The Woods.
Netflix has instead reserved January 1 for another thriller, The Twin, meaning the new adaptation will arrive at a different point in the year.
An official premiere date has not yet been announced.
However, the completion of filming suggests the series is progressing toward release.
Another Coben adaptation, I Will Find You, finished production in August 2025 before arriving on Netflix in June 2026, providing a possible example of the post-production timeline.
That comparison is not confirmation of when The Woods will debut.
A Familiar Creative Team Returns Behind the Scenes

The new thriller is written and executive produced by Danny Brocklehurst, a familiar name to viewers of Netflix’s Harlan Coben adaptations.
Brocklehurst previously worked on Fool Me Once, Stay Close and Run Away, bringing considerable experience in adapting the author’s intricate mysteries for television.
The production also features a substantial supporting cast.
Joining Bateman and Keegan are Mandeep Dhillon (MobLand), Pearce Quigley (The Gentlemen), Rade Sherbedgia (Slow Horses) and James Buckley (The Inbetweeners).
Other cast members include Shannon Watson, Pamela Nomvete, Kerry Howard, Roger Barclay, Simon Lowe, Dean Fagan, Tom Allen, Tracy-Ann Oberman, Charlotte Beaumont and Christopher Harper.
The ensemble brings together performers with experience across crime dramas, comedies and character-driven television.
The Woods Has Already Been Adapted Once Before

Although this is a new English-language production, The Woods is not the first Netflix adaptation of Coben’s story.
The streaming platform previously released a Polish-language version in 2020.
The upcoming eight-part series revisits the central mystery with a new cast and creative approach.
It also continues Netflix’s longstanding relationship with Coben, whose novels have provided the foundation for numerous successful streaming thrillers.
His stories have become particularly popular with audiences who enjoy fast-moving mysteries built around family secrets and unexpected connections to the past.
With its central disappearance, emotionally complicated characters and experienced creative team, The Woods follows that recognizable formula while offering a fresh interpretation of the source material.
Another Major Netflix Mystery Is on the Way
The completion of filming is encouraging news for viewers waiting for Netflix’s next Harlan Coben adaptation.
Michelle Keegan’s return, Tom Bateman’s leading role and the involvement of Danny Brocklehurst give the eight-part series a strong foundation.
Its premise also provides plenty of intrigue, particularly as Paul’s search for his missing sister threatens to expose secrets that have remained hidden for 20 years.
While Netflix has yet to confirm a release date, the production milestone means the thriller is another step closer to reaching audiences.
For viewers who enjoyed Fool Me Once, Missing You and Run Away, The Woods promises another mystery where the past refuses to stay buried. And with a missing sister, an old romance and decades of deception at the heart of the story, Paul’s search for answers could prove far more dangerous than he ever imagined.
