Outlander: Blood of My Blood Season 2 Trailer Reveals a Shocking New Separation as September Premiere Approaches

Jeremy Irvine and Hermione Corfield in 'Outlander: Blood of My Blood' Season 2

Outlander may have reached the end of its long-running journey, but the world built around Diana Gabaldon’s characters is far from finished.

The prequel series Outlander: Blood of My Blood is returning for Season 2 on September 18, and the newly released full trailer suggests that the two central romances are about to face even greater obstacles.

Most significantly, the footage appears to reveal what happened after Henry and Julia’s dramatic Season 1 cliffhanger — and time travel may once again have torn the couple apart.

With the Jacobite Rising beginning to engulf Scotland, Season 2 promises to place both young couples at the center of a conflict where love, family and survival could all be tested.

‘Blood of My Blood’ returns September 18

Season 2 of Outlander: Blood of My Blood will officially premiere Friday, September 18, on Starz and Starz on Demand.

Filming on the second chapter wrapped in February 2026, leaving fans waiting to discover how the show would resolve the major developments from the first-season finale.

The new trailer finally offers some answers — although it creates plenty of new questions at the same time.

At the center of the story remain the parents of Outlander favorites Jamie and Claire Fraser.

Harriet Slater plays Ellen MacKenzie opposite Jamie Roy as Brian Fraser, while Hermione Corfield stars as Julia Moriston alongside Jeremy Irvine as Henry Beauchamp.

The new trailer appears to reveal Henry’s fate

One of the biggest mysteries heading into Season 2 involves Henry and Julia.

The couple’s story originally began in World War I-era England before an extraordinary turn of events sent them through time and into 18th-century Scotland.

By the end of Season 1, they were facing another heartbreaking moment at the standing stones.

The new Season 2 trailer appears to suggest that Henry has once again been sent traveling through time, separating him from Julia and their newborn son.

If the footage is as revealing as it appears, the development places Henry and Julia back in a painfully familiar position: fighting against time itself to remain together.

Their relationship has already survived circumstances few couples could imagine, but Season 2 looks ready to push them even further.

Ellen and Brian face a war they cannot outrun

Henry and Julia aren’t the only couple entering dangerous territory.

Season 1 also followed the developing romance between Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser, whose relationship carries enormous significance for the wider Outlander story.

Their journey ended with the pair running away together.

But any hope of escaping into a peaceful new life was interrupted by the beginning of the Jacobite Rising.

Season 2 will place them in an increasingly volatile Scotland as clans are forced to decide where their loyalties lie.

That means Ellen and Brian’s relationship will no longer be threatened only by family expectations and personal rivalries. Political rebellion and war are now closing in around them.

Two love stories finally collide across time

9 'Outlander: Blood of My Blood' Season 2 Reveals From the Trailer

One of the defining ideas behind Blood of My Blood has been its decision to tell two romances connected to Jamie and Claire.

Ellen and Brian’s story unfolds in 18th-century Scotland, while Julia and Henry initially belonged to World War I England.

Time travel ultimately brought those separate narratives together.

That gives the prequel an unusual opportunity to explore the history behind both halves of Outlander‘s central couple.

Rather than simply explaining where Jamie came from, Blood of My Blood also expands Claire’s family history — while using the franchise’s time-travel mythology to connect two generations whose stories were never supposed to occupy the same period.

Season 2 now has to deal with the consequences of that collision.

Season 2 will test both couples in new ways

According to the current description of the season, Ellen and Brian and Julia and Henry will find themselves tested and separated by circumstances outside their control.

The Jacobite rebellion will become increasingly important as Scotland’s clans choose sides.

For Ellen and Brian, those decisions could directly affect whether the future they imagined together remains possible.

For Julia and Henry, the stakes are complicated further by their displacement from their own time — and now, potentially, from each other.

The combination suggests that Season 2 will lean heavily into one of the themes that has defined the larger Outlander franchise: love enduring despite history seemingly conspiring to make that love impossible.

Harriet Slater and Jamie Roy lead the returning cast

The four central stars will all return.

Harriet Slater reprises her role as Ellen MacKenzie, with Jamie Roy returning as Brian Fraser. Hermione Corfield is back as Julia Moriston, while Jeremy Irvine continues as Henry Beauchamp.

Several other important figures from the Outlander world will also return.

Tony Curran plays Lord Lovat, Rory Alexander portrays Murtagh, Séamus McLean Ross stars as Colum, Sam Retford appears as Dougal and Conor MacNeill plays Ned Gowan.

Their presence allows the prequel to continue showing younger versions of characters and families whose histories eventually become deeply intertwined with Jamie and Claire’s lives.

The creators promise to honor ‘Outlander’ while expanding its world

Showrunner and executive producer Matthew B. Roberts has praised the work of the cast and crew while emphasizing the importance of the new relationships at the heart of the prequel.

“The passion and talent our cast and crew have poured into Outlander: Blood of My Blood has been extraordinary,” Roberts said when discussing the continuation.

He added that the team hopes viewers become as invested in these couples as audiences became in Jamie and Claire.

Starz programming president Kathryn Busby similarly described Blood of My Blood as an expansion of the Outlander universe that respects the original while moving into new territory.

The goal is not simply to recreate Jamie and Claire’s romance with different characters, but to build stories capable of standing alongside it.

Familiar names remain behind the scenes

Roberts continues as showrunner and executive producer for Season 2.

He executive produces alongside Ronald D. Moore, Maril Davis and Jim Kohlberg, maintaining significant creative continuity with the wider Outlander franchise.

Sony Pictures Television produces the series.

That continuity is particularly important as Blood of My Blood takes on an increasingly significant role in keeping the universe alive beyond the flagship series.

The end of ‘Outlander’ isn’t the end of its story

For longtime viewers, Blood of My Blood now carries additional weight.

The original Outlander journey may be over, but the prequel can continue exploring the families, relationships and historical events that ultimately shaped Jamie and Claire long before their own extraordinary romance began.

Season 2 appears ready to take full advantage of that opportunity.

Henry and Julia may once again be divided by time. Ellen and Brian are heading directly into the turmoil of the Jacobite Rising. Scotland’s clans must choose their loyalties, and both romances will be forced to survive forces much larger than themselves.

Outlander: Blood of My Blood Season 2 premieres Friday, September 18, on Starz and Starz on Demand.
