Keep Going! — A Runner Has Revealed The Surreal Moment He Bumped Into Princess Anne During An Ordinary Jog In Scotland. Finlay Jacobs was running past a property when a Land Rover suddenly pulled up and a woman stepped out. They exchanged a casual hello before he took a second look — and realised he had just come face-to-face with the Princess Royal. Then Anne looked at the stunned runner and offered him two unforgettable words of encouragement: “Keep going!” He considered stopping for a photo, but ultimately chose not to disturb her private moment.

Runner’s Ordinary Jog Takes a Royal Turn After Surprise Encounter With Princess Anne in Scotland — And Her Two-Word Message Leaves Him Stunned

A routine run through Scotland delivered the kind of encounter Finlay Jacobs could hardly have expected: a Land Rover pulled up near him, a woman stepped out and casually said hello — and moments later he realised he had just crossed paths with Princess Anne.

The Scottish-based digital creator shared the unexpected encounter on Instagram, saying the Princess Royal not only greeted him but offered a simple piece of encouragement as he continued running.

“Keep going!” Anne reportedly told him.

Jacobs admitted he was stunned by the realization that Queen Elizabeth II’s only daughter had suddenly appeared during an otherwise ordinary run.

And although he briefly considered stopping for a photograph or trying to capture the royal encounter on video, he ultimately decided against it.

Instead, he did exactly what Anne had told him to do: he kept running.

Recounting the encounter to his social media followers, Jacobs explained that he was running past a property when a Land Rover arrived.

A woman got out and greeted him.

At first, nothing about the exchange appeared particularly unusual. Jacobs returned the greeting and continued on his way.

Then he looked again.

The woman was Princess Anne.

Jacobs described his disbelief as he processed who he had just encountered, before revealing that Anne looked at him and offered the encouraging words: “Keep going!”

It was an extraordinarily ordinary royal encounter — no formal introduction, ceremony or carefully arranged engagement, just a runner unexpectedly crossing paths with the Princess Royal.

Why He Decided Against Asking Princess Anne for a Photo

Jacobs acknowledged that his first instinct was to capture the moment.

He wanted to stop for a photograph or perhaps include Anne in his video, but quickly reconsidered.

The runner believed the Princess Royal was enjoying private time in Scotland and decided he did not want to intrude.

“I’ll keep going because I’m not going to disturb her,” he recalled thinking.

He subsequently shared the experience with his followers under the caption “Casually bumped into Princess Anne on my run,” accompanied by a laughing emoji and a Scottish flag.

The decision meant there was no posed photograph documenting the chance meeting.

But it also turned Anne’s brief encouragement into the most memorable part of the story.

Princess Anne Is Spending Time in Scotland

The encounter comes while Anne and her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, are spending time in Scotland during the Royal Family’s traditional summer gathering around Balmoral.

Anne and Sir Tim were photographed with other members of the family attending the Sunday service at Crathie Kirk on August 23. King Charles and Queen Camilla were joined by Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales, with their children, while Prince Edward and other family members were also present.

The official Court Circular confirms that Divine Service was held at Crathie Parish Church that morning, with the Rev. Dr. Grant Barclay delivering the sermon.

Balmoral has long offered the Royal Family a more private environment than their usual public residences, allowing relatives to spend time together away from the normal schedule of ceremonial engagements.

For Jacobs, that helps explain why he resisted the temptation to turn his surprise meeting into a photo opportunity.

A Rarely Seen Side of the Princess Royal

Mr Jacobs, a digital creator based in the country, took to his Instagram Stories yesterday to share his surprising encounter with the Princess Royal (pictured in Edinburgh this month)

Anne has developed a reputation over decades of public service for her direct, practical manner.

Her unexpected interaction with Jacobs fits neatly with that image.

There was no lengthy conversation or royal formality. According to his account, there was simply a greeting followed by two encouraging words.

“Keep going.”

The exchange lasted only moments, but Jacobs’s reaction showed just how surreal the experience felt.

One minute he was concentrating on his run. The next, one of the most senior members of the Royal Family was personally encouraging him to continue.

And then he simply ran on.

Balmoral Summer Comes During a Significant Moment for the Royal Family

Princess Anne delays summer break as she emerges with mystery injury

This year’s traditional Scottish gathering has attracted particular attention because it coincides with another major development involving the Royal Family: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s return to Britain with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

Several senior royals gathered at Crathie Kirk shortly after news of the Sussexes’ move became public. Buckingham Palace sources pushed back against suggestions that the Balmoral gathering represented an emergency summit, with reporting indicating the family’s summer plans had been arranged well in advance.

Harry and Meghan’s return does not mean they are resuming their former positions as working members of the monarchy.

Instead, they are establishing a private British base while retaining their life in California, with Archie and Lilibet expected to attend school in the UK.

The development has inevitably renewed attention on Harry’s relationships with his father and brother, particularly while senior members of the family have been spending time together in Scotland.

Anne Remains One of the Royal Family’s Most Active Members

The Princess Royal turned 76 on August 15.

Her age has done little to diminish her public workload, and the official Court Circular continues to document a busy schedule of engagements.

Earlier in August, for example, Anne and Sir Tim attended the 200th anniversary of Cowes Week on the Isle of Wight. The Princess Royal started a race, visited East Cowes Sailing Club, watched racing in the Solent and attended several other events during the day.

Her longstanding reputation for maintaining a demanding royal schedule has made her one of the monarchy’s most recognizable working figures.

Away from official duties, however, Scotland offers a chance for something different.

The Royal Family’s summer stays around Balmoral have traditionally provided opportunities for walking, outdoor pursuits and private family time away from the formal atmosphere of Buckingham Palace and Windsor.

It was apparently during one of those quieter moments that Jacobs happened to cross Anne’s path.

A Chance Meeting He Won’t Forget

Buckingham Palace had not publicly commented on Jacobs’s account when the original reports emerged.

That means the details of the exchange come from the runner himself rather than an official palace account.

But his description paints an amusing picture.

A Land Rover arrives.

A woman gets out and says hello.

A runner responds without immediately recognizing her.

Then comes the second glance — and the realization that the stranger is Princess Anne.

Jacobs could have stopped and attempted to preserve the encounter with a photograph. Instead, he chose to respect what he believed was the royal’s privacy.

That left him with something considerably simpler: a brief greeting and two words of encouragement from the Princess Royal.

For a man who had simply gone out for a run in Scotland, “Keep going” suddenly became a piece of motivation he is unlikely to forget.
