Prince William and Princess Kate Reunite with Tom Cruise at Star-Studded Digger Premiere
Prince William and Princess Kate brought royal glamour to Leicester Square on Tuesday evening as they reunited with Tom Cruise at the star-studded global premiere of Digger.
The Prince and Princess of Wales arrived at the Odeon Luxe for the Film and TV Charity Royal Film Performance, where they joined Cruise and director Alejandro G. Iñárritu alongside an impressive line-up of Hollywood stars.
The couple appeared relaxed and warmly greeted fans as they made their way into the event, with Cruise later telling reporters: “I just love them. They are lovely people and I have great respect for them.”
Kate makes a statement in purple
For the glamorous occasion, Princess Kate chose a floor-length jewel-toned purple gown by Jenny Packham, one of her regular designers for major red-carpet appearances.
The elegant dress featured sheer balloon sleeves, a flowing train and a dramatic silhouette. Kate completed the look with her signature long, softly styled curls.
Her jewellery was equally significant. The Princess wore the Queen Mother’s Amethyst Sautoir Necklace, a rare piece from the royal vaults, along with heirloom earrings that once belonged to Princess Diana.
Prince William, meanwhile, opted for a sophisticated velvet dinner jacket. Tom Cruise immediately noticed the outfit, complimenting him with a simple: “Great jacket.”
A warm reunion with Tom Cruise
Cruise was among the first stars to arrive at the premiere, posing for photographers and signing a fan’s shirt before the Waleses made their entrance.
William and Kate later spent time chatting with the actor before meeting other members of the cast and crew. They were also pictured speaking with Iñárritu, who directed the film.
The relaxed interaction offered a glimpse of the longstanding connection between the royal couple and the Hollywood star as they came together to celebrate the new film.
William and Kate also shared several affectionate moments throughout the evening. In one photograph, William could be seen gently placing a hand on his wife’s back as they walked through the event.
A night filled with Hollywood stars
The premiere brought together a host of high-profile names from the film and entertainment world.
Salma Hayek attended in an elegant black gown with a cape-style detail, while Hannah Waddingham opted for a fitted sleeveless black dress.
Sandra Hüller made a striking appearance in a full-length gold gown. She plays Emma Rockwell in Digger, which is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on 2 October.
Emma D’Arcy took a more unconventional approach, pairing tailored trousers with an oversized trench coat. D’Arcy plays Lina in Iñárritu’s film.
Riz Ahmed also attended, wearing a black suit featuring wide-legged trousers and a plunging black top.
William’s busy day began before the premiere
The Leicester Square premiere was not Prince William’s only film-related engagement on Tuesday.
Earlier that morning, he visited the ActOne community cinema in Acton, London, where he served popcorn and even attempted to use the venue’s membership system.
After struggling with the unfamiliar till, William joked: “It’s not my first till but it’s my first time on this system!”
He then added: “I’m going to let the professionals take over, I don’t want you to miss it.”
During the visit, the Prince met young filmmakers and representatives from the Film and TV charity, spending around an hour at the community cinema.
William ignores question about Earl Spencer’s memoir
The Acton appearance also attracted attention for an entirely different reason.
As William walked up the cinema steps, members of the crowd asked him about his uncle Earl Spencer’s memoir, Swan Song: Diana, My Sister.
One person called out: “Sir, how do you feel about your uncle’s book?” Another asked whether he had read it.
William did not respond and continued inside the cinema.
His decision came as Earl Spencer’s memoir has drawn renewed attention to the aftermath of Princess Diana’s death and his relationship with members of the Royal Family.
By the evening, the focus had shifted back to the glamour of the Digger premiere, with William and Kate joining Tom Cruise and the film’s cast for a high-profile night in Leicester Square.
