For fortunate Bee Gees fans, Barry Gibb and Stephen Gibb webcast a live jam session they recorded in March 2020. They performed three of the band’s most well-known songs, “Stayin’ Alive,” “Words,” and “How Can You Mend A Broken Heart,” in a simple acoustic setting.
The couple sounded natural as they duetted at Barry Gibb’s Miami mansion, which the Bee Gee made their permanent residence in 1974. Stephen, a musician in his own right, has been traveling with his father’s band since 2013.
The firstborn son of Linda and Barry Gibb, Stephen went to music school and played in bands across the United States, including Black Label Society, Crowbar, Kingdom of Sorrow, and The Underbellys. A talented musician, Stephen joined his father as lead guitarist and played in the first solo tour of the remaining Bee Gees, Mythology, in 2013. Since then, Stephen has played regularly for his father as lead guitarist and for the Bee Gees’ charity.
Barry’s first solo tour, the Mythology Tour, featured regular performances by Stephen and Maurice Gibb’s daughter, Samantha. Notable performances included Stephen singing “Stayin’ Alive” with Barry and Samantha, a lovely duet in which Samantha and her uncle sang “How Can You Mend a Broken Heart,” and a performance of “You Win Again” while Barry looked on. In 2017, Stephen and Samantha Gibb formed their own band, The Gibb Collective, which brought together the gifted children of brothers Barry, Maurice, Robin, and Andy Gibb.
With ten reworked interpretations of Bee Gees classics, the band’s debut album, Please Don’t Turn Out The Lights, was released on May 19, 2017, offering a modern take on the timeless songs that shaped an era.
