When the brothers made their debut appearance on national television, their harmonies, even as small youngsters, were unparalleled.
Barry, Maurice, and Robin Gibb most likely never imagined that the Bee Gees would become as successful as they were when they performed on national television for the first time.
The three brothers received an invitation to perform on the Desmond and the Channel 9 Pins Australian variety show on August 12, 1960.
Barry was 13 years old at the time, making him a tall teen next to the 10-year-old twins Maurice and Robin.
Nevertheless, when they sang an original song written by Barry, “Time is Passing By,” their harmonies sounded just as amazing as they did throughout the decades of music that followed.
For the performance, the family was flown in from Brisbane. The Gibbs had left their home in Manchester, England, just two years prior to immigrating to Redcliffe, Australia.
The gifted young siblings had been performing together to make some additional pocket money.
However, they started working in Queensland seaside resorts on a regular basis after their TV appearance.
The Bee Gees Sing and Play 14 Barry Gibb Songs, their debut album, was released five years later.
In 1967, their first international full-length recording, Bee Gees’ 1st, was released.
However, following their TV exposure, they began working regularly in Queensland’s coastal resorts.
Five years later, the Bee Gees released their first album, The Bee Gees Sing and Play 14 Barry Gibb Songs.
Bee Gees’ 1st, their first full-length worldwide recording, came out in 1967.
Barry and Robin didn’t perform live together again until 2006.
Following a cancer diagnosis, Robin tragically passed away in 2012 at the age of 62.
