There’s nothing quite like a nail-biting thriller that keeps you pinned to your sofa for half a day. The best ones pull you in with a fast-moving, high-stakes narrative, relentless tension and a rollercoaster of suspense that ultimately reaches a satisfying climax.
Netflix has a great track record when it comes to delivering these pulse-pounding thrillers. From The Beast in Me to Black Doves and Dept. Q (which was my favourite show of last year), the streaming giant really has upped its game in the last couple of years – and it looks like another corker is about to hit our screens.

The actor plays Calvin Penney, a Newfoundland fisherman and single father of three with a tragic past. When a violent sea creature begins terrorising his hometown, it’s up to Calvin to hold his tight-knit community together.

What is Below about?
The series follows Calvin Penney, a “big‑hearted but stubborn fisherman” who is still haunted by his father’s mysterious death from decades ago.
When his small village comes under attack by a violent creature, locals “succumb to mayhem” and his son Wade starts exhibiting “terrifying new symptoms,” Calvin joins forces with marine biologist Fonda to uncover the truth.
