Viewers can’t get enough of the “greatest sci-fi movie ever made”.
Netflix fans are obsessed with Tom Cruise’s ‘best film’ after reports surfaced one again of a potential sequel. The film has been available on the platform before but has been added once again.
It hasn’t taken long for it to earn a spot in the most watched movies among UK subscribers. It seems, that Edge of Tomorrow, is a popular choice for Netflix users when choosing a movie to settle down with.
At the time of writing it currently holds the number six spot in the top ten charts. Originally released in cinemas back in 2014, it is an adaptation of Japanese novel All You Need Is Kill with Tom Cruise leading the cast as Major William Cage.

Earth has under attack from invincible aliens and no military unit in the world has been able to beat them. Cage is an officer who has never seen combat in his entire military career but finds himself assigned on a deadly mission.
Despite being killed within moments on the battlefield, he finds himself thrown into a time loop. He begins to relive the day of the same brutal fight, along with his death, over and over again.
Cage must learn what is going on while also improving his own skills with each attempt. Along the way, he attempts to enlist the help of accomplished soldier Rita Vrataski, played by Emily Blunt to trust and train him as they get closer and closer to finally defeating the aliens.
While a moderate success at the box office, it was a critical hit with reviewers and fans. It boasts a 91% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with its fan score at 90%.
Due to its popularity, possible follow-ups and spin-offs have long been in discussion. Warner Bros were apparently discussing a television series based on the film back in 2022, while Cruise was linked with a sequel as recently as 2024.
Unfortunately reports earlier this year stated that the project is not in active development but is not officially dead either. It even has a page on IMDB with the working title of ‘Live Die and Repeat and Repeat’, a play on the original title for the first film.
In the mean time, fans are still recommending others check out what they say is one of Tom Cruise’s finest outings. One person shared a message with others on the Netflix subreddit to let them know that the film was available once again. They posted: “Finally Edge of Tomorrow has arrived. One of my favourite Tom Cruise movies. Really enjoyed it. Top performances from Cruise and Emily Blunt, if you haven’t watched it would recommend.”
Someone else even claimed that it is the ‘perfect’ Tom Cruise film to watch if you are not actually a fan of the actor. Someone else argued: “One of the greatest sci-fi/action movies ever made. This movie is criminally underrated as far as box office performance goes.”
Others say it is one of the best ‘time loop’ style movies, as they described it as “a dizzying combination of Groundhog Day, Starship Troopers, Source Code and The Butterfly Effect.”
One viewer commented: “One of the best action science fiction movies ever made! I didn’t know anything about it before watching and right from the start I was sucked in and entertained all the way to the end.”
Edge of Tomorrow is streaming on Netflix, HBO Max and NOW.
