The Hunting Party Is Finding a New Audience on Netflix — But Season 2 Is Still Somewhere Else

A crime thriller that struggled to impress critics during its NBC run is now finding a much larger audience on Netflix.

The Hunting Party debuted on NBC in January 2025, launching with a 10-episode first season. NBC renewed the series for Season 2, which premiered on Jan. 8, 2026, giving the show another chance to build an audience.

For Netflix viewers, however, the streaming release currently includes only those original 10 episodes.

That makes the first season an easy binge for anyone who missed the series when it originally aired — but viewers who finish all 10 episodes and immediately want more will have to look elsewhere.

Netflix Has Only Season 1 For Now

The first season of The Hunting Party is available on Netflix, while Season 2 remains available through Peacock and NBC.

Season 2 consists of 13 episodes, with episodes airing on NBC on Thursdays before becoming available to stream afterward.

That means Netflix subscribers can catch up on the beginning of the story, but they cannot currently continue directly into the second season on the platform.

The situation could eventually change.

There was no confirmation surrounding the February 2026 Netflix release that Season 2 would also move to the streaming service, but there is reason to believe it could happen in the future.

NBC and Netflix have previously shared successful network dramas, including The Blacklist and New Amsterdam. If The Hunting Party continues attracting viewers on Netflix, adding its second season could become a logical next step.

For now, though, viewers who want to follow the story beyond Season 1 will need Peacock or NBC.

A Crime Thriller Critics Didn’t Love — But Viewers Did

One of the most interesting aspects of The Hunting Party is the enormous gap between its critics’ score and its audience response.

Season 1 currently has just an 18% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes. Its audience score, however, is dramatically stronger at 81%.

Critics have pointed to the show’s formulaic structure and predictable twists, while some have nevertheless acknowledged that its action and central premise make it entertaining.

And that premise is easy to understand.

The series revolves around a secret prison holding some of the world’s most dangerous serial killers. When several of those prisoners escape, an experienced team is tasked with tracking them down before they can kill again.

For viewers who enjoy straightforward procedural crime dramas, that formula may be precisely what makes the series so addictive.

Netflix May Have Given the Series a Second Life

The biggest surprise came after The Hunting Party arrived on Netflix.

In the week following its streaming debut, the series reached No. 3 on Nielsen’s overall streaming chart, recording approximately 1.29 billion viewing minutes between Feb. 16 and Feb. 22.

Only The Night Agent and The Lincoln Lawyer ranked ahead of it during that period.

The numbers suggest that the show’s original NBC audience was only part of the story.

Netflix gave The Hunting Party access to viewers who may never have watched it during its network run, allowing the crime thriller to reach a considerably larger potential audience.

That kind of second life has become increasingly important for television series that fail to make an immediate impact on traditional broadcast television.

What Makes The Hunting Party So Easy to Binge?

At its core, the series offers a simple but effective hook: a group of extremely dangerous criminals is loose, and someone has to find them.

Each investigation provides another opportunity to uncover the circumstances behind an escape while keeping the larger mystery surrounding the prison alive.

That combination of individual cases and an overarching mystery gives viewers an obvious reason to continue from one episode to the next.

It may not have won over television critics, but the audience response suggests that The Hunting Party succeeds at something equally important for a streaming thriller — keeping people watching.

And with Season 1 now available on Netflix, viewers who overlooked the show the first time around have a much easier opportunity to decide for themselves.

Will Season 2 Eventually Come to Netflix?

For now, there is no confirmed date for Season 2’s arrival on Netflix.

That could eventually change if the series continues performing well on the platform.

The strong streaming numbers following its Netflix debut certainly give the show a compelling argument for a wider release. If enough viewers discover Season 1 and want to continue, demand for the second season could grow considerably.

Until then, Netflix viewers will have to stop after the first 10 episodes or switch platforms to continue watching.

For a series that once appeared to be another overlooked network crime drama, however, its sudden Netflix resurgence is already notable.

The Hunting Party may not have impressed critics, but billions of minutes watched tell a different story: sometimes a show doesn’t need critical approval to find its audience — it simply needs a second chance.
