Prince Georg of Liechtenstein Is Engaged to Princess Maria-Nives von der Leyen as Royal Wedding Is Set for 2027

Another royal wedding is officially on the horizon in Europe.

The Princely House of Liechtenstein announced on August 28, 2026, that Prince Georg of Liechtenstein is engaged to Princess Maria-Nives von der Leyen, confirming that the couple are expected to marry in Germany in late summer 2027.

Hereditary Prince Alois and Hereditary Princess Sophie said they were “delighted” to announce the engagement of their son, bringing another celebration to the Liechtenstein royal family just a year after the wedding of Georg’s older sister, Princess Marie Caroline.

Alongside the announcement, the Princely House released a portrait of the newly engaged couple, offering the public a rare glimpse of Prince Georg and his future bride together.

Prince Georg Is the Third Child of Liechtenstein’s Hereditary Prince and Princess

Prince Georg was born on April 20, 1999, at Grabs Hospital in Switzerland. He is the third child of Hereditary Prince Alois and Hereditary Princess Sophie of Liechtenstein.

His grandfather is Prince Hans-Adam II, Liechtenstein’s reigning prince, while his father, Hereditary Prince Alois, is the heir to the throne.

Georg, now 27, has largely maintained a relatively private life compared with members of some of Europe’s larger royal families.

His education took him across several countries. He first attended Ebenholz Primary School in Vaduz before studying at the International School Rheintal in Switzerland. He later moved to England, where he completed his secondary education at Malvern College.

Prince Georg subsequently attended the University of St. Gallen before continuing his studies at ESCP Business School, studying in Turin and Berlin.

In 2023, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Management.

That same year, he began his professional career in commercial positions with growth-focused technology companies. His work initially took him to Berlin, and he is now based in New York, where he works in business development in the technology sector.

Who Is Princess Maria-Nives von der Leyen?

Princess Maria-Nives von der Leyen was born on February 13, 2001, in Landsberg am Lech, Germany.

The 25-year-old is the youngest daughter of Prince Philipp von der Leyen and Princess Elisabeth von der Leyen.

Like her fiancé, Maria-Nives has an international educational and professional background.

She attended the International School Augsburg before completing her secondary education at the Klessheim Tourism School near Salzburg, where she obtained her Austrian Matura.

She later moved to the United Kingdom to study at the University of West London, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree.

After university, Maria-Nives spent two years working in Berlin. Since late 2024, she has been employed by a marketing agency in Vienna.

The official engagement announcement did not disclose further details about the couple’s relationship or how and when they became engaged, keeping the focus instead on their backgrounds and plans to marry.

Their daughter Princess Marie Caroline, Georg’s older sister, married Leopoldo Maduro Vollmer in Vaduz on August 30, 2025. The ceremony took place at the Cathedral of St. Florin and was followed by a reception at Vaduz Castle.

Now, only a year after that celebration, preparations can begin for another princely wedding.
