Prince George has taken a major step into the next chapter of his education by starting at Eton College, but his move has also highlighted a very different decision waiting for his younger sister, Princess Charlotte.

At just 11, Charlotte still has several years before she is expected to leave Lambrook, where she and Prince Louis currently attend as day pupils. However, with the school teaching children only up to around the age of 13, the question of where Charlotte will continue her education is likely to become increasingly important for Prince William and Princess Catherine.

And unlike George, Charlotte cannot simply follow the family path to Eton.

George Has Followed In William’s Footsteps

George’s arrival at Eton was widely expected, given that the prestigious Berkshire school is the same institution attended by his father, Prince William.

For William and Catherine, sending their eldest child away to become a boarder is likely to have been an emotional milestone, particularly after years of having George, Charlotte and Louis at home.

But the family will eventually face a similar transition with Charlotte.

The key difference is that Eton is an all-boys school, meaning Charlotte will need a completely different path once she reaches her teenage years.

Could Charlotte Follow Catherine?

One possibility reportedly being discussed is Marlborough College, the Wiltshire boarding school attended by Catherine before she went on to study at university.

According to a source quoted by RadarOnline.com, the fact that Charlotte cannot simply follow George creates an interesting decision for her parents.

“William and Catherine have always placed enormous importance on giving their children as normal and cohesive an upbringing as their circumstances allow,” the source claimed.

The source suggested they would want a school where Charlotte could develop away from the constant attention that comes with being a member of the Royal Family.

“They will want somewhere where she can flourish as Charlotte rather than constantly being treated as the King’s granddaughter or the future King’s sister,” the source said.

Catherine’s Personal Experience Could Matter

Marlborough would reportedly be a natural option because Catherine already knows the school from personal experience.

The source said the Princess of Wales understands its culture and what boarding there involves, giving her an unusually close perspective if the family eventually considers it for Charlotte.

That familiarity could potentially make the decision easier, particularly because boarding school would represent another major change for the young princess.

However, there is currently no confirmation that Marlborough has been selected.

Although Charlotte’s move is still several years away, families typically begin considering boarding-school options well before a child actually starts.

That means William and Catherine could eventually have to weigh up several factors, from the school environment and boarding arrangements to how well it would suit Charlotte personally.

The couple are also expected to make the decision together, just as they did with George, with any announcement likely to come relatively close to the time of the move.

For now, Charlotte remains at Lambrook with Louis while George begins his new life at Eton.
