Piers Morgan Warns Harry And Meghan’s UK Return Creates A ‘Rival’ Royal Problem — And Says Palace ‘Immediately’ Saw The Danger

Piers Morgan has delivered a blistering verdict on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s return to Britain, claiming the working royals immediately recognised the potential problem of having the Sussexes operating on British soil again.

Speaking during a live episode of The Royals Uncensored at Lympne Castle in Kent, Morgan claimed the couple’s return had been received extremely badly inside the Palace.

“This has gone down like a sack of old rotting potatoes,” he declared, saying his information came from sources close to the Royal Family whom he declined to identify.

‘They Immediately See The Problem’

Morgan argued that the issue was not simply Harry and Meghan choosing to live in Britain again.

In his view, their return could create what he described as a rival presence alongside the working Royal Family, particularly if the Sussexes continue their commercial and public activities while remaining outside the monarchy’s official structure.

“They immediately see the problem,” Morgan said, referring to the working royals.

He described Harry and Meghan as “rival renegades” and claimed the couple were known in America as “royal grifters”, alleging they would continue building their wealth without taking on the demanding public duties performed by working members of the Royal Family.

Those remarks were Morgan’s own assessment of the Sussexes and their position.

Morgan Accuses Sussexes Of ‘Stinking Hypocrisy’

The broadcaster then turned his criticism towards what he described as the contradiction between the Sussexes’ previous attacks on the monarchy and their decision to return to Britain.

Morgan accused the couple of wanting the advantages associated with royal status while remaining outside the system of duties and responsibilities expected of working royals.

He contrasted that with the commitments of King Charles and Catherine, Princess of Wales.

“Look at Charles, right? He’s the King — he’s had cancer,” Morgan said, pointing to the number of engagements the monarch has continued to undertake.

He added that he had “huge admiration” for Charles and Kate for continuing their public work.

Charles’ Letter Becomes The Flashpoint

Morgan also defended the King’s decision to issue a letter clarifying Harry and Meghan’s position.

The correspondence stated that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are no longer working members of the Royal Family and that their charitable activities are undertaken in a private capacity. Their HRH styles also remain suspended.

The Sussexes’ spokesperson said they were “a little surprised” not to have been informed in advance.

But Morgan viewed the Palace intervention as deliberate and necessary, arguing that it removed uncertainty over what role Harry and Meghan could expect to play after returning to Britain.

The ‘Public Figures’ Argument

The dispute became even more pointed when the panel discussed reports that Harry and Meghan would prefer to be treated as “public figures” rather than private citizens.

Morgan and co-host Katie Nicholl found the position deeply ironic.

After years of stepping away from royal duties and establishing an independent life overseas, the Sussexes are now back in Britain while the Palace has formally drawn a line around their status.

For Morgan, that distinction is at the heart of the entire dispute: Harry and Meghan may be free to build a life and pursue their own interests in Britain, but the working Royal Family appears determined to ensure that their return does not create a second version of the monarchy alongside it.
