A new origin story in the Bridgerton universe is on its way.
On Thursday, Oct. 8, Netflix announced a new untitled limited series that will explore the early life of Violet Bridgerton, who is played by Ruth Gemmell in the flagship series.
“Similar to the massive global hit Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, the series will chronicle the early life of a young Lady Violet and tell the story of her romance with Viscount Edmund Bridgerton,” reads a press release from Netflix.

A message shared by Shondaland on Instagram on Oct. 8 teased, “The love match that started it all shall soon be yours to see, dear reader. This author shall be sure to inform you of any updates. Until then… Yours Truly, Lady Whistledown.”

The announcement comes three years after Queen Charlotte explored the early life of the monarch, with India Amarteifio playing the younger version of Golda Rosheuvel’s character, alongside Corey Mylchreest as a young King George.
Shonda Rhimes, who will be co-writer and showrunner on the new series alongside Nicholas Nardini, teased earlier this year that a prequel story about Violet was on her mind.
“I’ve always said that I thought, if we were going to do [another spinoff], Violet would be a great person to tell the story about, the Bridgerton mom,” she said on a March episode of Craig Melvin’s podcast Glass Half Full. “So, yeah, that’s a possibility.”
Fans got a taste of what Violet was like in her youth in Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, as Connie Jenkins-Greig played the 12-year-old version of the character.
Violet’s parents, Lord Ledger (Keir Charles) and Lady Ledger (Katie Brayben), were also introduced in the prequel series, as was the hint of a possible romance between Lord Ledger and young Lady Danbury (Arsema Thomas).

Rosheuvel, 56, previously told PEOPLE that she was hoping to see another character get a prequel series. “I don’t know personally whether I want another Queen Charlotte spinoff,” she said earlier this year. “I’d like another character’s spinoff. I think there’s a lot of scope to delve into other characters’ prequel origin stories.”
All four seasons of Bridgerton and Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story are now streaming on Netflix.
