Bradley Walsh tells The Chase contestant not to “ruin his show” after cheeky answer

A question about ceramics took an unexpectedly cheeky turn on The Chase when contestant Reece gave an answer that had the entire studio laughing, including host Bradley Walsh.

The moment came during the 17 January episode of the ITV quiz show, as Reece faced Chaser Paul Sinha while trying to get £7,000 back to his team.

Reece turns a difficult question into a joke

Reece was the second member of his team to go up against Paul, better known as The Sinnerman. With just two steps separating him from home, the pressure was on as he tried to protect the £7,000 he had built up.

Then came a question he openly admitted he did not know.

He was asked what the term “finial” means in ceramics, with three possible answers: an ornate spout, a relief panel or a decorative knob.

Reece went with the decorative knob.

It turned out to be the right choice, but his explanation for picking it was what really got the studio going.

“I know quite a lot about decorative knobs,” he said.

Paul immediately joined in with a cheeky, “We all do.”

Reece then added: “I have no idea, but if I’m gonna go home I’d like it to be on a decorative knob.”

Bradley Walsh struggles to keep a straight face

The exchange was exactly the sort of unexpected answer that can send The Chase into fits of laughter.

For a brief moment, Bradley Walsh looked as though he might completely lose his composure. The presenter has become well known for his reactions to some of the show’s more ridiculous answers, and this one clearly tested his ability to keep things together.

Instead, Walsh managed to hold himself together and turned the joke into another one.

After theatrically gesturing for Reece to come over, he told him: “Don’t come on here ruining my show.”

The comment prompted another burst of laughter from the audience and contestants.

The joke was followed by a crucial correct answer

As funny as the exchange was, Reece still had a serious reason to celebrate.

His choice of decorative knob was correct, meaning he successfully added his £7,000 to the team prize fund. Andréa, the first contestant to face the Chaser, had already brought £1,000 back.

The team ultimately consisted of Reece, Andréa, David and Nesta, with their route to the final taking a few twists along the way.

David accepted a minus offer that reduced the prize pot by £1,000, while Nesta was caught by Paul Sinha.

That left three contestants to compete for a total of £7,000.

The team holds on in the Final Chase

The final round proved to be a tense one.

The remaining contestants managed to put together a score of 17 in the Final Chase. Paul Sinha had two minutes to catch them, but the Chaser could only reach 15 before the clock ran out.

That was enough to secure the team’s £7,000 prize, which was split between the three remaining contestants.

For Reece, the memorable moment over the ceramics question had turned into a particularly useful bit of luck. His deliberately cheeky answer had not only produced one of the episode’s biggest laughs, it had also been completely correct.

And after making it through the game with his share of the winnings, Reece already had a plan for the money.

He said he intended to spend it on a trip to Sweden.
