Kelly Clarkson Leaves Fans Doing a Double Take as She Transforms Into Beetlejuice for Halloween – Complete With Creepy Makeup, Yellow Teeth and a Wild ‘Day-O’ Performance!
“IT’S SHOWTIME!” Kelly Clarkson went all out for Halloween, and her latest transformation was almost impossible to recognize. The singer and talk show host traded her familiar look for the unmistakable appearance of Beetlejuice, delivering a spectacularly spooky tribute to the cult classic that turned her entire studio into a supernatural spectacle.
The highlight? A hilariously chaotic performance of Harry Belafonte’s iconic “Banana Boat (Day-O)”, complete with ghostly dancing, elaborate costumes and a stage straight out of Tim Burton’s twisted imagination.
Kelly Clarkson Becomes the Ghost With the Most
Clarkson kicked off the Halloween episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show on Thursday, October 31, 2024, looking nothing like herself.
Dressed in Beetlejuice’s signature striped suit, she sported waxy green hair, a moss-covered face, grimy makeup and yellowing, slime-covered teeth. The transformation was so convincing that even her behind-the-scenes footage had fans doing a double take.
In one particularly memorable moment, Clarkson emerged from a grave as she launched into “Banana Boat (Day-O),” the 1956 Harry Belafonte classic famously featured in the original 1988 Beetlejuice.
She even attempted to recreate Michael Keaton’s distinctive husky voice, fully embracing the mischievous personality of the iconic bio-exorcist.
Turning to bandmate Jessi Collins, who was dressed as Lydia Deetz, Clarkson delivered a cheeky line in character: “Hey, you come here often?”
She also joked with her staff about her dramatically altered appearance, quipping about the dating app Raya: “What’s up, Raya? New profile pic.”
Her Entire Band Joined the Supernatural Madness
Clarkson wasn’t the only one committed to the Halloween transformation.
Her house band, Y’all, went all in, appearing as an assortment of characters from both the original Beetlejuice and its 2024 sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.
The costumes included:
- Lydia Deetz, originally played by Winona Ryder.
- Adam Maitland, portrayed by Alec Baldwin in the original film.
- Wolf Jackson, the ghost detective.
- Bob, the memorable character from the sequel.
- A deceased football player and Harry the Hunter.
The band also recreated one of the movie’s most unforgettable moments: the dinner-table possession scene.
As “Day-O” played, the performers jerked and danced together in unison, as though mischievous spirits had taken control of their bodies. It was a playful recreation of the bizarre supernatural sequence that helped make the original film so memorable.
The Kelly Clarkson Show Was Completely Taken Over by Beetlejuice
The Halloween tribute went far beyond costumes and an opening musical number.
The production team transformed the entire studio into a miniature version of Winter River, recreating the model town from the Maitlands’ attic.
The elaborate set featured:
- A sprawling graveyard.
- A sandworm.
- The hallway leading to the afterlife offices.
- Bob’s office.
- A copy of the infamous Handbook for the Recently Deceased.
- A model of Baby Beetlejuice climbing a set of hanging chains.
After the performance, Clarkson welcomed viewers with a clear declaration that the entire episode would be devoted to the supernatural comedy.
“It’s showtime,” she announced. “Happy Halloween. Welcome to The Kelly Clarkson Show. And today, if you couldn’t guess, we’re all about Beetlejuice. You’re welcome.”
Even the show’s special guests joined the festivities. Reba McEntire dressed as Delia Deetz, Catherine O’Hara’s character in the original movie, while her boyfriend, Rex Linn, took on the creepy janitor character played by Danny DeVito in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.

The Original ‘Day-O’ Scene Was Just as Chaotic Behind the Scenes
The tribute also brought renewed attention to the making of the original film’s legendary dinner-table sequence.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly earlier in the summer of 2024, Catherine O’Hara revealed some surprisingly chaotic details about how the scene was filmed.
She explained that crew members were positioned underneath the table, wearing shrimp gloves and waiting to make the shrimp cocktail attack the characters’ faces.
The timing was deliberately unpredictable. Crew members would receive cues, but human delays meant the attacks sometimes happened slightly earlier or later than expected.
O’Hara recalled that the cast filmed the sequence for several days, with everyone contributing their own movements alongside the choreographer’s instructions.
Although the idea and music were already compelling, she admitted she hadn’t anticipated just how entertaining and memorable the finished scene would become.
Kelly Clarkson Continues Her Halloween ‘Kellyoke’ Tradition
Beetlejuice wasn’t the first iconic movie character Clarkson had brought to life for her annual Halloween musical celebrations.
The singer has previously transformed herself into some equally recognizable screen characters:
- 2020: She portrayed Madeline Ashton, Meryl Streep’s character in the 1992 dark comedy Death Becomes Her.
- 2019: She channeled Winifred Sanderson, Bette Midler’s beloved character from Hocus Pocus.
Interestingly, Clarkson wasn’t the only television personality to embrace Beetlejuice for Halloween in 2024. Al Roker and Mark Consuelos also appeared in the character’s famous striped suit on Today and Live With Kelly and Mark, respectively.
But with her astonishing transformation, an entire cast of costumed characters and a full-scale recreation of the film’s supernatural world, Clarkson made sure her Halloween celebration was anything but ordinary.
