Leeds contestant leaves The Chase viewers amused after unusual answer just minutes into show
A contestant from Leeds gave The Chase viewers plenty to laugh about within the first few minutes of Friday’s episode after an unexpected answer left host Bradley Walsh momentarily surprised.
The September 25 edition of the ITV quiz show saw four contestants, Dharm, Mark, Gwen and Cami, take on one of the show’s Chasers as they attempted to build a sizeable prize fund.
Dharm was the first contestant to take part in the cash-builder round. The 40-year-old Civil Service accounts manager is originally from Bolton but now lives in Leeds.
He had a specific reason for wanting to win some money. Dharm told Bradley that he hoped to use his winnings to pay for a hair transplant.
Bradley Walsh questions Dharm’s hair
When Bradley asked Dharm what he would do with the prize money, the contestant replied: “Well, I’ll get a new head of hair, right?”
Bradley then jokingly questioned why Dharm needed one, asking: “What’s the matter with the one you got?”
Dharm explained that his hair was “running a bit thin” before revealing that he was hoping to take home between £2,000 and £3,000.
The cash-builder round then got under way, with Dharm given one minute to answer as many questions as possible.
His very first answer, however, immediately caught the attention of viewers at home.
Dharm’s first answer sparks reaction
Bradley’s opening question was: “Complete the saying: You should never look a gift horse in the what?”
Dharm quickly answered: “Eye.”
Bradley confirmed that the correct answer was “mouth”, meaning Dharm had missed out on the question.
The unusual response prompted plenty of amusement among viewers watching the episode, with several taking to X to comment on the moment.
One viewer wrote: “TBF I’ve never looked a gift horse in the eye – good advice…#TheChase.”
Another joked: “#Thechase don’t look in its mouth, they bite (laughing face emojis).”
A third viewer simply reacted: “#thechase Eye, blimey (eye roll emoji).”
Another posted: “#TheChase eye???? (horse emoji)”, while someone else added: “Eye (laughing faces) Fantastic start #thechase.”
Despite getting off to an awkward start, Dharm recovered and managed to build up £4,000 during his cash-builder round.
Four contestants reach the final
Dharm then faced Shaun “The Dark Destroyer” Wallace in the head-to-head round.
He successfully made it through and secured his place in the final.
Cami was next to take on the questions and returned to the team with £6,000, taking the combined prize fund to £10,000.
Gwen followed and also made it through to the final, adding another £3,000 to the team’s total.
Mark was the final contestant to face the Chaser. He returned with £4,000, bringing the team’s prize pot to £17,000.
The four contestants then joined forces for the Final Chase against Shaun Wallace.
They answered enough questions to finish with a score of 20, which proved sufficient to defeat the Chaser.
As a result, Dharm, Mark, Gwen and Cami successfully completed the final and took home their share of the £17,000 prize fund.
The Chase airs on weekdays on ITV and ITVX.
