If You Loved Downton Abbey, This Could Be Your Next Obsession…Aimee Lou Wood’s New Period Drama Based On A Bestselling “Masterpiece” Has Just Received A Major Update. Aimee Lou Wood is stepping into a fascinating new period drama adapted from a bestselling novel widely regarded as a literary masterpiece. The project combines lavish period storytelling with the kind of intimate, emotionally charged character drama that made shows like Downton Abbey so addictive, while Wood brings a very different energy to the genre. But the latest update hints that this adaptation could be far more ambitious than fans first expected—and there may be a very good reason to keep this one on your Netflix watchlist

Aimee Lou Wood’s upcoming Jane Eyre project has apparently seen an exciting development.

It was reported earlier this year that the White Lotus and Sex Education actress is set to play Charlotte Bronte’s heroine in a new adaptation of the bestseller, which was first published in 1847.

The TV series is being produced by Working Title, and Deadline has now reported that the BBC has got on board and will develop the series as well as “become its broadcaster-financier”.

So far, few details about the small screen adaptation are known, but fans have already shared their delight at the prospect of seeing Aimee play the novel’s eponymous protagonist. Jane is an orphan and as she grows up becomes a principled young woman. She becomes a governess at Thornfield Hall, where she falls for its mysterious owner, Edward Rochester.

Several people posted messages on social media after Aimee was linked to the part, with one fan exclaiming: “Oh my God, she’s perfect for Jane!”

“Wood as Jane feels like a good fit to me, so I am optimistic,” said someone else. Another posted: “I adore Aimee Lou Wood! She is a phenomenal dramatic actress and I think she will do a great job. Promising so far!”

“I actually think she will be great in this role. Congrats to her!” said somebody else.

Some period drama fans did complain that there were already “too many” TV and film adaptations of the classic novel, which many called a “masterpiece”.

These include the 2011 version, featuring Mia Wasikowska and Michael Fassbender in the lead roles of Jane and Rochester. Five years before that was a BBC miniseries starring Toby Stephens and Ruth Wilson.

However, many Jane Eyre fans made it clear they would welcome another take. One said on Reddit: “I’m going against the grain to say I’m excited! Sure there’s a million adaptations, but Aimee is awesome and always has great chemistry on screen.”

Aimee was previously quoted by The Standard as saying she was “so excited” about the role.

The actress, who is set to star as Pattie Boyd in the upcoming Beatles film, said: “It’s like, ‘Okay, I’m playing Pattie.’ She was this really cool style icon, gorgeous, popular, sociable, and then I’ll get to go and play feral Jane, which feels that feels more that feels more like home to me.”
