Netflix boasts a strong line-up of gripping Nordic crime dramas, and its latest offering has viewers hooked.

The new five-part series, Blood Sacrifice, follows a Stockholm detective who must join forces with his estranged ex-cop father to catch a serial killer targeting police officers.

Three people stand in front of a building; Jakob Oftebro in police gear, a woman in business attire, and another officer.

Created by George Kay, the creative force behind hit thrillers Lupin and Hijack, it’s little wonder the Swedish series has already earned an impressive 86 per cent score on Rotten Tomatoes.

What have viewers said about Blood Sacrifice?

Viewers have wasted no time sharing their thoughts on social media, with some hailing the show as “excellent” and “definitely worth watching”.

Jakob Oftebro stands next to an older man with a white beard, both looking ahead. A police car is behind them.

One person penned: “Love this one night binge. Excellent,” while another described the drama as “incredible”.

A third viewer penned: “I will forever argue that European limited crime thrillers are unmatched. Binge-watched the 5-part Swedish series #BloodSacrifice on Netflix and it’s SO good,” while another added: “Just watched first episode of a cracking Swedish thriller called #BloodSacrifice on  @Netflix. Really involving and with a very appealing lead cop. Highly recommend!”

What is Blood Sacrifice about?

The series follows detective Thomas, who is forced to team up with his estranged father Alfred, a former detective, after two police officers are found brutally murdered. The pair must put decades of resentment aside to hunt down a brutal killer before time runs out.

Two men, one with short hair and the other with gray hair, sit at a table in a restaurant, facing each other.

The official synopsis reads: “It is summertime in Stockholm, when the darkness never really creeps in. A 911 call is received, speaking of a home invasion. Two police officers are sent to the address, a summer house in the archipelago. Only to find there is no one there, at least not that they can see. The next day the bodies of the officers are found, a brutal crime.

“This is the start of a series of terrifying murders, all seemingly targeting police officers. The lead detective needs to ask his father, a retired detective, for help in cracking the case.”

Who stars in Blood Sacrifice?

Jakob Oftebro (Agent Hamilton) stars as Thomas, alongside Peter Andersson (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) as Alfred.

In a statement, Jakob described the series as an “intense, emotional journey”. “Thomas is a man who has dedicated his life to the police, but when the attacks start targeting his own world, he’s forced to confront not only a brutal killer, but also the complicated relationship with his father,” continued the actor. “Playing him was both challenging and incredibly rewarding – it’s a story about justice, loyalty and what happens when the past refuses to stay buried.”
