An ‘extremely underrated’ action horror film recently added to Netflix continues to impress audiences. The Cave only joined the streaming platform’s vast catalogue a short while ago.
Despite its recent arrival, it has already climbed the rankings impressively. Currently, The Cave sits as the third most-watched film amongst British viewers, trailing only behind fresh original releases Enola Holmes 3 and Voicemails for Isabelle.
The film’s synopsis reveals that this 2005 release centres on a team of cave divers recruited to explore some Romanian archaeological remains. Their exit route becomes blocked unexpectedly.

Making matters considerably worse, they discover they’re being stalked by terrifying creatures inhabiting the depths. Survival depends on successfully navigating the extensive network of underground passages, reports the Mirror.
Those revisiting the title are particularly taken with the ensemble cast, featuring Cole Hauser, Game of Thrones star Lena Headey, Piper Perabo and Daniel Dae Kim. Comparisons have been drawn to other creature features including The Descent, Alien and even Vin Diesel’s science fiction venture Pitch Black, often favourably.
One enthusiast labelled it “Extremely underrated.” They further stated: “This movie deserves the recognition and the people who made it possible as well.”
One viewer concurred, commenting: “This movie had pretty much everything it should. The photography and scenery were very beautifully done. The cast was fun and varied, Cole Hauser especially was very intense and captivating and carried the movie well. There was plenty of suspense, horror, adventure, action, monsters, special effects, the whole range.”
While another branded it a “messed up horror”. It’s certainly not the most critically celebrated film on offer.
Nevertheless, numerous viewers who have watched it maintain that it remains entertaining for what it is.
Such as one viewer searching for a title with a comparable premise, who remarked: “Wanted to put a comfort horror on in the background while working on a rainy day so searched The Descent on Netflix. They didn’t have it, so watched the recommended The Cave instead.
“It was delightful in a wow this is terrible kind of way. I think of it as a boy-band knock-off version of The Descent. Though with a delightful twist that you see coming the whole time.”
