Seventeen The 1% Club Contestants Were Knocked Out By One Tricky Planet Puzzle — Could You Have Spotted The Answer In Time?
Seventeen contestants were caught out by a deceptively difficult question on ITV’s The 1% Club, proving that even a simple-looking puzzle can become surprisingly challenging when the clock is ticking.
Hosted by Lee Mack, the popular quiz show tests logic and common sense rather than general knowledge. But a recent solar system question left a staggering number of players struggling to work out the answer before time ran out.
A Planet Puzzle That Caught Out Seventeen Players
During Saturday night’s episode, Lee Mack presented the audience with a question worth 25%.
The challenge showed the planets in their usual order from the Sun and asked contestants to work out how many would remain in the same position if the planets were rearranged alphabetically.
The question was:
“The image here shows the planets in their order from the sun. How many planets stay in the same place if they are moved into alphabetical order from the sun?”
It sounded straightforward enough. However, contestants had to mentally rearrange the planets while keeping track of their original positions — all under the pressure of a time limit.
Seventeen players failed to get the answer right and were eliminated from the competition.
Lee Mack Reveals The Answer
After the countdown ended, Lee revealed that the correct answer was two planets: Saturn and Uranus.
The trick was to compare the planets’ original order from the Sun with their positions when their names were arranged alphabetically.
The two planets that remained in the same numbered positions were Saturn and Uranus.
Lee also delivered a cheeky joke about Uranus, prompting laughter from the audience.
Despite the light-hearted moment, the question had proved much harder than many contestants expected.
Viewers Struggled With The Question Too
The puzzle also caught out viewers watching at home, with some taking to social media to admit they had run out of time while trying to rearrange the planets.
One viewer wrote that they were “out” because they had spent too long working through the order.
Another admitted they had come close but still failed to reach the correct answer.
The reactions showed how a question requiring only familiar planet names could become difficult when contestants had to think quickly and keep track of multiple positions.
Five Contestants Also Missed The £97,000 Jackpot
The same episode featured another tense moment when five contestants reached the final question, with a £97,000 prize pot at stake.
Their challenge involved a set of celebratory balloons. Vince’s best man had bought balloons spelling “Stag Location”, while Vince’s other friends insisted that he also needed enough balloons to spell “Congratulations”.
The contestants had to identify the three additional letters required.
Despite having just 30 seconds to solve it, none of the five finalists managed to give the correct answer, meaning the prize pot went unclaimed.
The episode therefore delivered two very different challenges: a planetary puzzle that eliminated 17 players and a final word-based question that defeated all five finalists.
Could You Have Beaten The Clock?
The planet question demonstrates what makes The 1% Club so challenging. It is not necessarily about knowing obscure facts; it is about organising familiar information quickly and spotting a pattern before the time limit expires.
With 17 contestants eliminated by the same question, the puzzle proved that even knowledge of the solar system does not guarantee an easy answer.
