Prince Harry is taking an active interest in Prince George‘s upcoming stint at Eton College, reveals a source, who says he still shudders over his own time at the snooty public school and worries his nephew could suffer a similarly stressful experience.
“Harry has made no secret of the fact that he had a very hard time when he was at Eton,” the source tells In Touch. “All things considered, there were positives, but the level of pressure and scrutiny was pretty unbearable.”
The Duke of Sussex, 41, started at the prestigious all-boys boarding school in 1998, just a year after his mother Princess Diana died. The transition was a “profound shock,” he recalled in his 2023 memoir Spare, per People, and instead of helping Harry adjust, Prince William, who was already a student at Eton College, asked his younger brother to pretend he didn’t know him.
“Harry’s hoping George will have a much better time of it than he did, but of course he’s worried for him because he knows exactly what he’s about to face,” says the source. “He wishes he could be there to support George.”

As In Touch previously reported, George, 13, has fond memories of his uncle, despite not having seen Harry in years due to his estrangement from William, 44.
“Harry loves George dearly, but the sad fact is he really doesn’t even know him anymore,” admits the source. “He was just seven years old the last time they spent any sort of proper time together and now here is, off to Eton and about to begin this big new chapter of his life.”
During their recent trip to the U.K., Harry, his wife Meghan Markle and their children, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, were finally reunited with King Charles III and Queen Camilla. However, the Sussexes are not believed to have met with William, Princess Kate or their children, George, Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, 8.
“It’s one of the reasons Harry is so desperate to make peace with William,” the source notes. “He wants the chance to have a relationship with George, and with Charlotte and Louis too. It breaks his heart that he’s missed so much of their childhoods already.”
