Harry & Meghan’s UK Return: Close Friend Reveals the Real Reason Behind Their Shock Move

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s decision to return to the UK after six years in California has left royal watchers wondering what prompted such a dramatic change of direction.

Now, Harry’s close friend Bryony Gordon has offered her insight, suggesting the move may have less to do with abandoning their American life and more to do with creating an “international” family.

Speaking on This Morning, Gordon explained that the Sussexes are not giving up their Montecito home. Instead, California will remain a place for the family to return to, while the UK provides them with a base closer to family, friends and Harry’s long-standing connections.

“California is lovely… They’re not letting go of it,” Gordon said, explaining that the distance from Britain can make it difficult for Harry to stay connected to everything happening back home.

One factor Gordon believes may have influenced the decision is Harry’s extended family.

She recalled the family’s visit to Althorp in July, where Harry and Meghan reportedly spent time with Harry’s uncle, Earl Spencer. According to Gordon, Archie and Lilibet particularly enjoyed the experience, which may have reinforced the Sussexes’ desire to give their children more opportunities to know their British family.

Meghan’s career could also be part of the picture

The move comes as Meghan continues to expand her professional ambitions, from her lifestyle brand As Ever to television projects.

There has also been speculation that the Duchess could be considering a return to acting. Meghan became internationally known through Suits before stepping away from acting after marrying Harry, and reports have recently linked her to potential projects in the UK.

However, nothing has been officially confirmed regarding a new acting role, so that should be treated as speculation rather than the confirmed reason for the move.

For now, Gordon’s comments suggest the Sussexes are attempting something different: not choosing Britain over America, but building a life that allows them to keep one foot in both worlds.

Harry and Meghan are expected to remain outside the working Royal Family, while Archie and Lilibet begin their education in the UK.

The biggest change may therefore be for the children — giving them a closer connection to the country, family and childhood environment their father left behind six years ago.
