Dick Van Dyke, 99, Takes the Stage Again at Malibu Fire Relief Fundraiser

Dick Van Dyke may be approaching his 100th birthday, but the Hollywood icon continues to prove that the stage is where he feels most at home. The legendary entertainer, now 99 years old, performed with his a cappella group, The Vantastix, during the Vandy Camp fire relief fundraiser in Malibu on Saturday.

Joined by his wife, Arlene Silver, 53, Van Dyke helped host the event and delivered a joyful set that included the beloved classic “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.” Wearing a “Step in Time” T-shirt from Mary Poppins, he greeted fans with the same warmth and charm that have defined his career for more than seven decades.

A Fundraiser With Personal Meaning

The event, held at Aviator Nation, aimed to raise money for communities affected by the devastating Palisades Fires that tore through the area in January. The cause struck especially close to home for Van Dyke and Silver — their $8 million Malibu property was directly threatened by the wildfire.

Though they ultimately did not evacuate, their guest house caught fire and sustained minor damage. Silver shared the experience on Instagram Live, explaining that the couple had been living on a gas generator while navigating the aftermath of the blaze.

“Keeping Dick warm and entertained has been my top priority,” she said. “We don’t have power or regular electricity, so we’ve been relying on my camper to cook and charge our devices.”

Despite the challenges, Silver said they have no plans to relocate from the Malibu home they love.

“Dick is more comfortable here than anywhere else. It’s easier to take care of him here,” she shared, calling her husband a “trooper.”

Health Scares and Heroic Neighbors

The couple has faced multiple wildfire threats in recent years. In December, just before Van Dyke’s 99th birthday, the Franklin Fire forced him to evacuate. During an appearance on Today, he recalled struggling to reach his car before neighbors stepped in to carry him to safety and help extinguish a small fire on the property.

Though concerns about his health grew after he missed appearances at the 2024 Emmys and a fan convention in Utah, Van Dyke later reassured fans when he appeared in high spirits on Jimmy Kimmel Live! alongside his son Barry, 73, to discuss his cameo in a Coldplay music video.

A Star Who Still Lights Up the Room

Photos from Saturday’s event showed Van Dyke performing joyfully on stage, sharing warm moments with Silver, and later leaving the venue with the aid of a cane. Even as wildfires have threatened his home and age has slowed his steps, his spirit remains unmistakably bright.

As the “Bye Bye Birdie” legend prepares to turn 100 later this year, his latest public appearance is a reminder of why fans continue to adore him: Dick Van Dyke is still singing, still smiling, and still showing up — a timeless entertainer whose presence brings light wherever he goes.
