Cosy Crime Favorite The Marlow Murder Club Returns With New Murders, Big Guest Stars and an Even Bigger Role for Its Amateur Sleuths

Fans of cosy crime have another reason to return to Marlow.

The Marlow Murder Club is back with its third season, bringing Samantha Bond, Cara Horgan and Jo Martin together once again for a fresh collection of murders set against the deceptively peaceful backdrop of Buckinghamshire.

Created by Death in Paradise mastermind Robert Thorogood and adapted from his bestselling novels, the series has become a firm favorite with viewers who enjoy mysteries driven as much by character and atmosphere as by the crimes themselves.

This time, however, the trio at the center of the story are no longer simply curious outsiders.

They have become an established part of DI Tanika Malik’s investigative world.

Judith, Becks and Suzie are back on the case

Samantha Bond returns as Judith Potts, a retired archaeologist with a natural instinct for spotting the details others miss.

She is once again joined by Cara Horgan as Becks Starling, a vicar’s wife whose seemingly conventional life hides a sharp investigative mind, and Jo Martin as dog walker Suzie Harris.

Thorogood has been open about the Agatha Christie influence behind the show.

After creating Death in Paradise, which he has described as carrying shades of Hercule Poirot, he wanted to build another mystery series inspired by a very different Christie archetype.

His answer was The Marlow Murder Club.

Thorogood said he wanted to create his own version of a Miss Marple-style story, reflecting his long-standing love of Christie’s mysteries.

That influence is easy to see.

The series places ordinary people at the center of extraordinary crimes, using a close-knit community, seemingly respectable suspects and clever misdirection to build its mysteries.

Marlow itself becomes part of the appeal.

The riverside town provides exactly the kind of picturesque setting where murder feels both shocking and strangely at home within the traditions of cosy crime.

Season three begins with some very public deaths

The new season gives Judith, Becks and Suzie several difficult cases to unravel.

One involves the sudden death of Marlow’s much-loved mayor, described as the nicest man in town.

Another begins at the launch of a celebrity chef’s cookbook.

With much of the local community gathered for the event, the chef is found dead, immediately creating a large pool of potential witnesses and suspects.

The cases continue the show’s habit of placing murder inside apparently harmless community events.

But another investigation could prove much more personal for the trio.

Becks becomes a suspect

One of season three’s most intriguing mysteries unfolds during a university reunion held inside an eerie manor house.

The gathering takes a dramatic turn when a murder investigation begins.

More alarmingly for Judith and Suzie, Becks ends up among the suspects.

That creates a different kind of challenge for the amateur detectives.

Until now, the women have largely approached cases from the outside, following clues and questioning the official version of events.

This time, the investigation threatens to place one of them directly under suspicion.

It could also jeopardize their increasingly official role as civilian advisers to Tanika.

For a team that has fought to prove its value to the police, that may be just as dangerous as the mystery itself.

Season three brings in another strong guest cast

The series has developed a reputation for attracting familiar faces, and the third season continues that tradition.

Peter Davison joins the guest lineup, following roles in The Gold and Gentleman Jack.

Tony Gardner, known for The Larkins and Last Tango in Halifax, also appears.

Comedy star Harry Enfield is another prominent addition.

The guest casting gives each new mystery the feel of a self-contained event while keeping Judith, Becks, Suzie and Tanika as the consistent center of the series.

A fourth season is already confirmed

The drama was renewed for a fourth season in June, with six more episodes planned for 2027.

Season four is set to begin with the discovery of a body in the river.

The case soon becomes connected to the Marlow Amateur Dramatics Society and a local Hollywood star.

Another investigation will focus on a man who suddenly dies at his mother’s wake.

At first, the death appears to have been caused by an allergic reaction.

The women will have to determine whether that explanation is really as straightforward as it seems.

One future murder involves a vineyard and a very unusual death

Another season-four mystery will take the amateur investigators to a vineyard.

There, one of the owners is discovered dead after apparently drowning in his own wine.

With no obvious motive, Judith, Becks and Suzie will once again have to untangle family tensions, private scandals and betrayals hidden beneath Marlow’s respectable surface.

Those cases suggest the series has no intention of abandoning the formula that made it successful.
