Nicola Walker’s Twisted Disney+ Comedy Alice and Steve Renewed for Season 2 — Expect More Betrayal, Chaos and Bad Decisions

What happens when your best friend starts dating your daughter? For Alice, it turns a lifelong friendship into an increasingly bitter battle — and now, that messy feud is officially set to continue.

Disney+ has confirmed that Alice and Steve, the darkly comic series starring Nicola Walker and Jemaine Clement, will return for a second season. The renewal comes after the show’s first run ended on a major cliffhanger and sparked plenty of discussion among viewers.

Created and written by Sophie Goodhart, the six-part British comedy premiered on Disney+ on June 8, 2026. The series has also received major recognition, including three awards at CANNESERIES.

And while details about the second season remain tightly under wraps, the creative team has already promised that Alice and Steve’s troubles are far from over.

‘No One Will Be Prepared’ for What Happens Next

Goodhart welcomed the renewal with a clear warning for fans.

“I am so thrilled that Alice and Steve has been given a second season. No one will be prepared for what happens next, especially not Alice and Steve,” she said.

That tease is particularly intriguing given where the first season left its central characters.

Alice, played by Walker, is devastated when her longtime best friend Steve begins a relationship with her 26-year-old daughter, Izzy, played by Yali Topol Margalith.

For Alice, the situation threatens two of the most important relationships in her life at once. She fears losing both her best friend and her daughter, and becomes determined to stop the romance.

But Steve refuses to back down.

What begins as a close friendship gradually transforms into an all-out feud, with Alice resorting to increasingly desperate measures to disrupt the relationship. Disney+’s official synopsis describes her attempts as ranging from threats and pleading to sabotaging Steve’s career.

Steve, meanwhile, believes Izzy is the best thing that has ever happened to him and is determined to make their relationship work.

The conflict eventually begins to affect Alice’s marriage to Daniel, played by Joel Fry, as even he becomes alarmed by the side of Alice that the situation has brought out.

The First Season Became a Major Talking Point

The unusual premise helped make Alice and Steve one of the more talked-about new British comedies of 2026.

Disney+ has described the series as an exploration of friendship, love and revenge, while its unusual age-gap romance generated heated online discussion alongside strong critical reactions.

The six episodes were released on Disney+ on June 8, with each episode running for approximately 30 minutes.

The response was strong enough for the series to earn three CANNESERIES awards, while critics praised the chemistry between Walker and Clement and the show’s willingness to explore the uglier sides of long-term relationships.

Digital Spy previously described the series as unusually bingeable while also going deeper into uncomfortable questions about relationships and what people are willing to do when their emotions take over.

Other reviews were similarly enthusiastic, with The Daily Express calling the show “delicious, addictive, and compelling,” while The Times praised its combination of darkness, comedy and uncomfortable moments.

Disney+ Promises More Chaos

Lee Mason, Disney+ EMEA’s vice president of scripted, said the response from viewers had been particularly encouraging.

“It’s been fantastic to see the rapturous reactions to Alice and Steve from viewers at home,” Mason said. “Sophie has created a distinctive and original comedy, striking a chord and sparking debate with audiences across the country.”

He also made it clear that the second season will not be backing away from the ingredients that made the first run so unpredictable.

“I’m excited to see what mayhem Sophie and Clerkenwell have in store for our titular characters after that delicious cliffhanger,” Mason added, promising “more laughs, betrayal, and bad decisions” in season two.

That leaves plenty of room for the complicated relationships at the heart of the show to become even more tangled.

Who Will Return?

The series is led by Nicola Walker as Alice and Jemaine Clement as Steve, with Yali Topol Margalith playing Izzy and Joel Fry as Alice’s husband Daniel.

Alice and Steve is produced by Clerkenwell Films, with Sophie Goodhart creating and writing the series. Executive producers include Petra Fried, Sophie Gardiner and Wim de Greef, with Rachael Stephenson serving as co-executive producer.

For now, however, Disney+ has not announced a release date for season two. There is also no confirmed production timeline.

The first season remains available to stream on Disney+, while the series is also available through Hulu in the United States.

With the first season ending on a cliffhanger and the creators promising that neither Alice nor Steve will be ready for what comes next, one thing is already clear: their friendship war is nowhere near finished.
