Kelly Clarkson Makes Triumphant Return To Daytime TV With A Red Clay Strays Cover Fans Are Calling An “Absolute Masterclass”
Kelly Clarkson is back on daytime television, and she wasted little time reminding viewers why her voice remains one of the most celebrated in music. Returning from a brief holiday break, the Grammy-winning singer delivered a soulful take on the Red Clay Strays’ “No One Else Like Me” that left fans praising her ability to move effortlessly between genres.
The performance aired Monday, January 12, on The Kelly Clarkson Show, marking her first episode since the show’s holiday hiatus. As soon as Clarkson launched into the country-rock track, her signature vocal power took center stage.
For viewers who have followed her journey since American Idol, it was another reminder of just how far the Texas native has come.
From American Idol Winner To Award-Winning TV Host
Clarkson was just 20 when she took a chance on a brand-new reality competition called American Idol 24 years ago. Winning its inaugural season launched a career that has since spanned music, television and some of the biggest stages in entertainment.
Now 43, she has earned three Grammy Awards and scored 12 Top 10 hits on the Billboard charts. Her success has extended well beyond the recording studio, too.
As host of NBC’s The Kelly Clarkson Show, she has collected eight Daytime Emmy Awards. Yet even with her television responsibilities, Clarkson continues to give audiences a regular reminder of her musical roots through the show’s popular “Kellyoke” segment.
The concept is simple: Clarkson takes on songs made famous by other artists. The results, however, can be anything but ordinary.
“PURE MAGIC”: Why Fans Are Praising Her Latest Cover
For her latest performance, Clarkson chose “No One Else Like Me,” a song written by Red Clay Strays lead singer and guitarist Brandon Coleman alongside his younger brother, Matthew Coleman.
The track appears on the band’s 2024 sophomore album, Made By These Moments, and brings together the group’s country-rock sound with lyrics about personal struggles and the search for hope.
Clarkson leaned into the song’s emotional weight, delivering lines about a restless fighter and a troubled thinker with the kind of soulful intensity that has become a hallmark of her performances.
One viewer, reacting to the performance on Instagram, summed up the appeal in a glowing comment:
“This feels like an absolute master class in blending genres. Like, somehow this is rock, country, pop, blues, gospel…PURE MAGIC!”
The reaction captures what makes Clarkson’s “Kellyoke” performances so compelling. Rather than simply reproduce a familiar song, she brings her own vocal identity to the material, moving across musical styles while keeping the emotion at the heart of the performance.
With this Red Clay Strays cover, she once again demonstrated why the segment remains a standout feature of her daytime show.

Kelly Clarkson Is Also Preparing For Her Las Vegas Return
Clarkson’s television comeback is not the only item on her schedule. The singer wrapped up the first leg of her Studio Sessions residency at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace on November 15.
Fans who missed that run will have another opportunity to see her live. Clarkson is scheduled to return to Las Vegas on July 17 for an additional eight-show stretch, with the run set to conclude on August 15.
The residency has already faced some difficult moments. Ahead of its planned July 4 opening night, Clarkson postponed the first few performances because she needed vocal rest.
Then, a month later, she put performing on hold again following the death of her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, with whom she shared two children.
Blackstock died on August 7 at the age of 48 after a three-year battle with melanoma.

A Return That Puts Her Voice Back In The Spotlight
After a period marked by postponed performances and personal loss, Clarkson’s return to The Kelly Clarkson Show brought her musical talent back into focus.
Her “No One Else Like Me” cover offered another example of the versatility that has sustained her career since her American Idol victory. And the enthusiastic response from viewers suggests that her ability to make a song feel distinctly her own remains as powerful as ever.
With more Las Vegas performances ahead, Clarkson has plenty more opportunities to connect with audiences through her music. For now, her latest “Kellyoke” has given fans another reason to celebrate the voice that started it all.
