‘The Circle’ Just Got a Little More Special. Rhonda Vincent’s 2-Year-Old Granddaughter Stepped Into The Grand Ole Opry Circle With A Tiny Ukulele — Then Sweetly Sang One Of Country Music’s Most Beloved Classics

Rhonda Vincent’s 2-Year-Old Granddaughter Sweetly Sings “Will the Circle Be Unbroken” at the Opry

At just two years old, Faye already looks completely at home on the Grand Ole Opry stage.

The granddaughter of bluegrass star Rhonda Vincent recently stepped into the famous Opry Circle and confidently sang part of “Can the Circle Be Unbroken,” the Carter Family’s beloved adaptation of the hymn “Will the Circle Be Unbroken.” Her charming performance drew a warm response from the audience and offered a sweet glimpse of the next generation of the Vincent family.

A Family Tradition on the Opry Stage

Rhonda Vincent, widely known as the Queen of Bluegrass, became a member of the Grand Ole Opry family in 2021. Her brother, Darrin Vincent, was already part of that Opry tradition. He became an Opry member in 2017 alongside Jamie Dailey as part of the duo Dailey & Vincent.

With that history, performing at the Opry has become something of a Vincent family tradition.

During a recent Opry show, Rhonda brought her daughter, Sally, and her granddaughter, Faye, onto the stage. A video shared by the Grand Ole Opry captures Rhonda beaming as she introduced the two-year-old to the audience.

Faye stood proudly in the middle of the Circle, holding a ukulele as Rhonda asked whether she wanted to sing.

Sally then picked up her daughter and brought her to the microphone. With a little prompting and a lead-in from her grandmother, Faye began singing the chorus of “Can the Circle Be Unbroken.”

The toddler appeared remarkably comfortable in front of the crowd. There was no obvious sign of stage fright as she sang, and when she finished, the audience responded with enthusiastic applause.

Faye then sweetly thanked the crowd for their reaction.

The brief performance may have lasted only a moment, but it was a memorable one, especially given the musical history surrounding her family and the stage where she was performing.

The Story Behind “Can the Circle Be Unbroken”

The song Faye performed has a long history that predates the Carter Family.

“Will the Circle Be Unbroken” began as a Christian hymn written by Ada R. Habershon in 1907, with music composed by Charles H. Gabriel.

The Carter Family later transformed the song into the version that became so closely associated with country, folk, and bluegrass music. A. P. Carter reworked the original hymn into a funeral-themed song, retaining the familiar “by and by” chorus while adding a new set of verses.

The Carter Family recorded that version in 1935 under the title “Can the Circle Be Unbroken.”

Despite the different title, the song is still frequently called “Will the Circle Be Unbroken,” and it has become a standard performed by generations of artists.

Its connection to the Grand Ole Opry feels especially fitting. The Opry’s iconic Circle is the spot where its performers stand when they take the stage, giving the song’s familiar imagery an added resonance in that setting.

A Song With a Special Opry Connection

“Will the Circle Be Unbroken” also played a prominent role in the Grand Ole Opry’s centennial celebrations.

The song was performed at the conclusion of the massive Opry 100 television special in 2025, commemorating the Opry’s 100th birthday. Rhonda Vincent was among more than 50 Opry members who joined together for the closing performance.

Now, Faye has added her own tiny contribution to the song’s long history at the Opry.

At only two years old, she has already stood inside the Circle and sung for an Opry audience with her grandmother by her side. Given the Vincent family’s deep connection to bluegrass and the Opry, it is a particularly fitting introduction to the stage.

Maybe one day, little Faye will be up on that stage celebrating the Opry’s 150th birthday!
