Netflix’s frontier drama Little House on the Prairie has officially completed filming on its second season, marking the milestone with an expanded cast list as the Ingalls family establishes their new life in Walnut Grove.
The reimagined television adaptation of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s autobiographical book series proved an immediate ratings draw when it debuted in July 2026, amassing 6.4 million views within its first 96 hours on the platform.
Advancing the Frontier: An 18-Month Time Jump

Season 2 shifts focus to Wilder’s fourth novel, On the Banks of Plum Creek, following the family’s transition to farm life along the Minnesota plains.
According to series lead Luke Bracey—who heads the core ensemble as Charles “Pa” Ingalls alongside Crosby Fitzgerald (Caroline), Alice Halsey (Laura), and Skywalker Hughes (Mary)—the upcoming season incorporates an 18-month narrative leap. The time jump will explore Charles confronting the escalating financial and personal stakes of establishing a permanent homestead.
“I’m excited to see him learn from his mistakes and grow as a man and grow as a husband and grow as a father,” Bracey noted regarding his character’s trajectory.
To ground the production in historical realism, showrunner and executive producer Rebecca Sonnenshine conducted on-site research in the real-life Walnut Grove, Minnesota, integrating period-accurate town dynamics into the show’s visual and narrative design.
“I actually visited the real Walnut Grove last year… And so we took a lot of inspiration from that, from the real town,” Sonnenshine said. “We are so excited to show people our Walnut Grove, which is inspired by the real place and inspired by the books.”
