Keeley Hawes Returns As A Ruthless Assassin In The Assassin Season 2 — A Kidnapping Forces Her Back Into A Dangerous World
Keeley Hawes is preparing to return as the formidable assassin Julie in the highly anticipated second season of Prime Video’s crime drama The Assassin. The newly released trailer promises another action-packed chapter, with a family crisis forcing Julie to reunite with her son, Edward, and confront a dangerous criminal underworld.
Set to return on 6 November, the new season puts the complicated relationship between Julie and Edward back at the centre of the story. This time, however, they have an urgent mission that neither can handle alone.
A Kidnapping Changes Everything
The second season follows Edward after his wife, Kayla, is kidnapped during their honeymoon. The crisis brings him back into contact with Julie, despite the fragile relationship between them and their reluctance to work together again.
The first season ended with a major revelation: Edward discovered that Julie was not his biological mother and that his real father was Jean-Luc, a French arms dealer. That discovery left their relationship on uncertain ground, setting the stage for the tensions that follow.
According to the new season’s synopsis, the pair’s difficulties deepened after a disastrous trip to Berlin. They became estranged once again following a mysterious falling-out that neither is willing to discuss.
But when Kayla disappears, personal disagreements have to take a back seat. Julie and Edward must put their differences aside if they are to find her.
Julie Is Back In Action
The new trailer offers a glimpse of Julie returning to the work she knows best. She is seen handling guns and taking down villains as the story plunges the mother-and-son duo into the dangerous world of international crime.
Their uneasy partnership is captured in one exchange from the trailer. Edward tells his mother, “I don’t need you to fight my battles,” prompting Julie to reply, “You literally brought me here to fight your battles!”
The exchange reflects the tension between the two characters, whose relationship remains complicated even as they are forced to depend on one another.
Their mission takes them into Spain’s criminal underworld, where corruption and danger threaten to derail their efforts. The official synopsis suggests that surviving the job will be only part of the challenge: they must also find a way to repair their already fragile relationship without turning against each other.
Who Is Returning For Season 2?
Hawes reprises her role as Julie, while Freddie Highmore returns as Edward. Shalom Brune-Franklin is back as Kayla, and Devon Terrell returns as Ezra.
The new season also introduces several additions to the cast, including Arnaud Binard, Natalia Tena, Boris Van Severen, Jacqueline Boatswain and Monic Hendrickx. Further cast members include Karl-El Santos, Mehdi Regragui, Casimiro Aguza, Tony Corvillo, Amin Hamada and Lolo Herrero.
With its mix of family conflict, international crime and high-stakes action, the second season promises to push Julie and Edward into another dangerous situation while testing whether their fractured relationship can survive.
The Assassin season two premieres on Prime Video on 6 November.
