Anne Hathaway Has One More Major Theatrical Release Coming in 2026

Anne Hathaway’s 2026 theatrical run has already been remarkable, but her year on the big screen is not over yet. After starring in major releases including The Devil Wears Prada 2, Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, and the recently released dinosaur movie The End of Oak Street, Hathaway has one more film arriving in theaters.

That movie is Verity, a psychological thriller based on Colleen Hoover’s novel of the same name. It is scheduled to open in theaters on October 2, putting Hathaway back on the big screen just two months after The End of Oak Street debuted on August 14.

Hathaway has had an unusually busy year at the movies. 2026 has delivered an eclectic mix of films, from smaller productions such as Obsession and Backrooms to major blockbusters that have dominated the box office.

Among the year’s biggest successes is Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is breaking box office records and targeting a top-three finish among the highest-grossing films of all time.

Hathaway has also been part of one of the year’s biggest releases. Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey has already earned more than $1.3 billion worldwide, surpassing Marvel’s Deadpool & Wolverine to become the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time.

Before The Odyssey, Hathaway returned to one of her most recognizable roles with The Devil Wears Prada 2. The sequel brought back the core cast of the original film 20 years after its release, finally delivering a continuation that fans had been asking for.

Released in May, The Devil Wears Prada 2 went on to earn $692.3 million worldwide. Combined with the success of The Odyssey, the film further demonstrated Hathaway’s enduring position as one of Hollywood’s biggest stars.

The End of Oak Street Wasn’t the End of Hathaway’s 2026 Run

Hathaway’s impressive year could have ended with The End of Oak Street, which arrived in theaters on August 14. The Steven Spielberg-like dinosaur movie added another major theatrical project to an already packed 2026 schedule.

Earlier in the year, Mother Mary had also generated hopes that Hathaway could receive an Oscar nomination, adding another layer of significance to her run of films.

Yet despite the success and variety of those projects, Hathaway still has one more theatrical release ahead.

Verity Brings Hathaway Into Darker Territory

Hathaway’s final theatrical release of 2026 will be Verity, arriving October 2. The film adapts Colleen Hoover’s novel of the same name and takes Hathaway into considerably darker territory than many of the author’s better-known romantic works.

Hoover is widely associated with novels such as Regretting You and the It Ends with Us series, but Verity is firmly rooted in psychological thriller territory. The story explores disturbing secrets and puts its characters in increasingly unsettling circumstances.

That makes the film a particularly interesting choice for Hathaway. Audiences looking for a more intense and complex performance from the actress could get exactly that when Verity reaches theaters in October.

The film also gives Hathaway an impressive group of co-stars. Fifty Shades trilogy star Dakota Johnson and Oppenheimer actor Josh Hartnett are both part of the cast.

Johnson plays Lowen Ashleigh, a writer who is hired to ghostwrite the final installment of successful author Verity Crawford’s book series. Verity, played by Hathaway, is unable to complete the book herself after an accident leaves her incapable of doing so.

Lowen’s assignment becomes much more complicated when she discovers disturbing secrets connected to Verity. Those revelations drive the film into increasingly dark territory, setting up an R-rated psychological thriller built around mystery and suspense.

Verity Is Unlikely to Become Hathaway’s Biggest 2026 Hit

There are several reasons to expect Verity to perform well. The film has Hathaway in the lead, a recognizable source novel from a hugely popular author, a strong supporting cast, and a recent trailer that has highlighted the mystery at the center of the story.

Still, it will be difficult for Verity to become Hathaway’s biggest theatrical release of 2026.

The most obvious obstacle is The Devil Wears Prada 2. Its $692.3 million worldwide gross came after two decades of anticipation for a sequel to the beloved original. Verity would already face a significant challenge trying to match that level of box office success.

Then there is The Odyssey.

Nolan’s fantasy epic combines one of Hollywood’s most prominent directors with an adaptation of one of the world’s best-known literary works. Its box office performance has already taken it beyond $1.3 billion worldwide, making it the highest-grossing R-rated film ever.

Hoover’s most successful adaptation to date is It Ends With Us, which earned $351 million worldwide. Even with Hathaway as its leading star, Verity is unlikely to come close to The Odyssey’s billion-dollar total.

That does not make the film any less significant to Hathaway’s 2026. With Verity arriving on October 2, she will close out an unusually successful theatrical year with a dark psychological thriller, giving audiences one final opportunity to see her on the big screen before the year ends.
