Meghan Markle’s Reported UK Acting Comeback Thrown Into Doubt as Claim Emerges The Gentlemen Casting Has Been “Withdrawn”

Meghan Markle’s potential return to acting in Britain has taken an unexpected turn, with a new claim suggesting that a possible role in Netflix’s The Gentlemen is no longer moving forward.
The Duchess of Sussex had reportedly been involved in early discussions about joining a potential third season of Guy Ritchie’s hit series, a development that would have coincided with her return to the UK six years after relocating to the United States.
However, former Vanity Fair editor-in-chief Tina Brown has now claimed that the proposed casting has been withdrawn following what she described as an intense reaction in Britain.
Meghan was reportedly in early talks for The Gentlemen
According to an earlier report from Deadline, Meghan was understood to have entered preliminary discussions about appearing in a third season of The Gentlemen.
The Netflix crime drama stars Theo James and Kaya Scodelario and comes from filmmaker Guy Ritchie.
Any appearance would have represented a notable development for Meghan, whose acting career became internationally recognised through her role in Suits before her marriage to Prince Harry.
However, there was an important uncertainty surrounding the reported opportunity from the beginning: The Gentlemen has not yet been renewed for a third season.
The discussions were also described as being at an early stage rather than a completed casting deal.
Tina Brown claims the casting has now been dropped
The latest development came from Tina Brown, who claimed on X that she had learned Meghan’s involvement was no longer proceeding.
“I learned this morning the casting of Meghan in The Gentlemen has been withdrawn,” Brown wrote.
She attributed the alleged decision to the reaction surrounding reports of Meghan potentially returning to acting in Britain.
“The backlash in the UK was so intense that it became untenable,” Brown claimed, before adding: “This does not bode well for Meghan’s acting comeback in the UK.”
Brown’s comments represent her account of the situation. The information provided does not include confirmation from Meghan, Netflix, Guy Ritchie or representatives of The Gentlemen that an offer was formally made and subsequently withdrawn.
Questions remain over Meghan’s acting future
The reports arrive as Meghan prepares for another significant change in her life, with the Duchess expected to relocate back to Britain alongside Prince Harry six years after the couple left the UK and established themselves in America.
A return to acting at the same time would have marked another major shift for Meghan.
For now, however, her possible involvement with The Gentlemen remains surrounded by uncertainty. The original reports referred only to early-stage discussions, the series itself has yet to receive a third-season renewal, and Brown’s claim that the casting has been withdrawn has not been officially confirmed.
That leaves Meghan’s potential UK acting comeback unresolved — and any suggestion that the The Gentlemen opportunity definitively ended because of public backlash remains, at this stage, a claim rather than an established fact.
