A comedy crime drama series on Channel 4 is captivating hearts, with viewers saying it’s the perfect watch for Agatha Christie fans and those who enjoy that particular genre of crime-solving and mystery building.

Audiences have called the show a ‘delightful mystery series’ and praised it’s dynamic storylines and stunning locations.

Starring Jane Seymour in the lead, Harry Wild is an Irish detective comedy drama created by David Logan who co-wrote it with Irish author Jo Spain. It first premiered on AcornTV back in 2022 and has been running successfully for five seasons, with the latest series hitting airwaves this June.

Seymour is joined by Rohan Nedd, Rose O’Neill, Kevin Ryan, Amy Huberman, Aoife Mulholland, Paul Tylak, and Danielle Ryan to round out a stellar supporting cast.

Speaking to TVDrama.com about what she’s enjoyed the most in her time playing Harry Wild, Seymour shared: “Rohan Nedd, who plays Fergus, from day one, we clicked. We help build each other up together. Whenever we have scenes together, it’s just wonderful. The writing is so good, it just gets better and better. We’re in Dublin, so many brilliant theater actors are here.

The actress added: “And we’re like a big family. There are no egos on our set. Everyone does it together. We choose to spend time with one another during time off or even during the months we’re not filming. They’ll come and visit me in America. So, when we’re acting, there’s an amazing trust and an understanding of how we work.”

Critics have said good things about the series, with one writing: “Harry Wild now has the ‘lived in’ feel of a veteran mystery series, but it still depends heavily on Seymour’s dynamic performance more than the mysteries and side characters who have actual realistic personalities.”

While another reviewer said of the show: “If all this sounds like a flight of unbelievable fancy, it is, but Seymour’s having fun hamming it up, asking her son for weed and being generally outrageous.”

Audiences have also enjoyed the series to the core, with one viewer writing on Rotten Tomatoes: “Great fun buddy detective series. It’s an old formula with a fresh take done really well and clever crime scenarios.”

Another fan of the series said: “Smart and funny. Jane Seymour is joyous. I laughed out loud, jumped at the scary bits and fell in love with this character. Can’t wait for the rest of the episodes.”

While a user review posted to IMDB reads: “Harry Wild is a delightful mystery series. Love the plots, the quirky cast, and of course, Jane Seymour is marvellous in this part. Her partner in crime-busting is a fresh young face and a perfect foil for Seymour. The stories are a little quirky, but it’s in Ireland which is wonderful to see the way the Irish live and work.

“Everything looks authentic and the villages are quaint and lovely. I like the supporting cast members, some of whom I have seen in other shows, which is nice. The characters are comfortable with each other and the plots of the episodes are crafted with mysteries and hijinks fun to figure out and so enjoyable to watch the outcome.”

Another audience review says: “Good mystery show. If you liked Miss Fisher, or Jane Seymour, you will like this show. It’s fun Agatha Christie-style mysteries, solved by an older woman and a young man that she meets by random. Interesting characters, great cast, and good stories. I really like it.”

While one IMDB review reads: “Delightful mystery series with literary references and snarky dialogue! This series won me over from episode one! The mysteries are great and the dialogue is fantastic. The supporting cast is wonderful and anything but typical. I have already started recommending this to my closest friends. I found it thoroughly delightful!”

One fan of the series said: “Excellent, cosy mystery. This show is an excellent addition to the genre. It’s also managed to create a good internal consistency from episode to episode, with a great cast of characters that don’t remain static and grow as the show goes on. The mysteries are great too. Overall this is definitely one of Acorn TVs best shows. Highly recommend!”

Harry Wild is available to stream for free on Channel 4.
